while it's true they are not playing their best, they are certainly not out of it yet. didn't post a great score today, but as the rest of the field completes their play, Texas's +17 in the club house, keeps moving up the board. they just have to finish top 8 after tomorrow's round, and sitting at 14 currently with half the teams still out there...
Come on WooWoo, you know we expect the team to be 10 under by now. In a more serious vein, it would be nice to see a Texas team perform to the highest level of its skill right out of the box.
Golf's a funny game. Spieth is the #1 ranked player in the country and he is the 5th best scorer on the Texas team in this tournament. If he can get a groove Texas easily makes the weekend, where it's match play anyway. Currently 1 stroke away from 8th place, and only 5 strokes separates Texas from the top 3. In team golf that's nothing. Of course it can just as quickly and easily go the wrong direction as well.
There are 14 teams (3rd-16th) within 7 strokes of one another. Honestly, all but a handful of the 30 teams in the field could still make the top 8; it should be an exciting finish.
Texas shows it's closing power today, carding the best round of the entire tournament to finish 3rd (you just need to finish in the top 8 to move on to the finals). Texas goes head to head in match play with Washington tomorrow!
Texas shot the best round of any team in the first three rounds yesterday to clinch third seed in match play which involves top 8 teams through 54 holes. Horns take on 6th seed Washington this afternoon with winner to play UCLA-Oregon tomorrow in the semifinals.
