Janikowski got hurt
So Dickson simply drop-kicked the kickoff to the 4 yard line

 

^Not something you see very often - but he did get the job done with it.

 

The second KO was horrible and they went back to Janikowski.

 

It showed why the Drop Kick fell out of style. It's a high risk technique. Dickson is about as reliable as can be expected. I think he's 2-3 or 3 for 4 in terms of successful kickoffs using the drop kick method. Still waiting for him to attempt a FG with the method.

 

You never know which way that oblate spheroid is going bounce.

 

Also, the ball more resembled a rugby ball back when the drop kick was popular
