AH - That ship has already sailed.
Like many, you cut cable TV and purchased a streaming device Roku to replace the cable box, purchased internet wifi to replace the Cable copper/fiber line so you could access online, and now purchase content from content suppliers like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ATT TV, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV, HBO, ESPN, etc.
The Roku hardware streams the signal that the content providers sell. You can subscribe to Netflix for $9/mo and stream via Roku to your TV screen. You can do the same with smartphones, PCs, laptops, Notebooks, and other streaming hardware like Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Google Chromecast plus Google Chrome, Microsoft Windows, Mozilla Firefox etc.
You have to purchase internet from and ISP and purchase content from a content supplier. Some content is "free" with commercials, HD Antenna and broadcast TV.
The change that has taken place is that rather than purchasing a cable TV service and choosing a bundle of channels of 40 to 1500 channels from Comcast, Spectrum, ATT Uverse or a thousand other cable companies that deliver the content via copper, fiber, satellite etc you are purchasing the content much closer to the source of the producer of the content.
Today ESPN owns the rights to LHN and can offer the LHN via any number of distribution networks and channels that ESPN controls. I get LHN thru my subscription of ATT TV Now streamed thru Amazon Fire TV via ATT Internet. The cost of LHN is included in the price of ATT TV Now. It also includes ESPN and hundreds of other apps, channels etc.
The CFP Championship in Monday Jan 13 th at 7pm. You can watch LSU vs Clemson live on ESPN and online at WatchESPN.
You will pay for access to see the game and the commercials. That is the future of sports TV.
