“It’s hard… 18-20-year-old guys coming in caring about the wrong things instead of winning," Ojomo said Thursday. “It needs to be players led, coaches fed. Coaches come and go… Players have to make a stand and basically say enough is enough. Like, 7-6 BS Texas isn't happening no more.” A clean Bo Davis rendition in my opinion. Happy to see Ojomo stayed on Bo’s bus. For the .001% who don’t know what I’m talking about- following the ISU loss last year. https://youtube.com/shorts/WfENhPrZyxA?feature=share
I like it. But I also like results. The D needs to right itself and stop being #114 in the country against the run. And, as much as I like what he has to say, Ojomo was a major part of why our run D was ****. And our run D was the primary cause of every loss in 2021. This seems to be what Coach K builds: a bend-but-don't-break D that goes all out to stop teams through the air at the cost of allowing lanes on the ground. I'm ok with allowing some movement if our offense is clicking. But UW's 2021 D (sans Coach K) was #1 in the nation against the pass and #108 against the run. That's not sustainable, and their 4-8 record confirms it. Our offense was WAY better than UW's last year, and yet we only had 1 more win than them.
Looks like Sark wasn't thrilled with Ojomo's public comments. I am curious on the take on the board. Right for Ojomo to share the thoughts or do those need to be kept behind closed doors? Texas DL barred from media after culture critique
I think Ojomo was asserting himself as a team leader and elder statesman, something we have had very little to none of under Herman. That said, I agree with Sark, those comments are best served behind "closed doors". Yes, some of the youngsters need to hear it, but not read it in the Spaceman. Keep family matters in the family.
He didn't name any names, didn't let out any secrets, only negative stuff he said was stuff we all already knew to be true, talked about players needing to take leadership and responsibility, and said he wasn't going to settle for 50/50 wins/losses. If the coach is pissed off and pushing him for this, that's a really bad sign for the future of the program.
Well, and it wasn't just "this young player is going to be great for us." He was calling out players in his own recruiting class... something I don't think even VY did. It's nice to have a vocal leader, but until his on-field play backs up his mouth, he probably shouldn't be airing that stuff.
I do agree. As much as I want to see what appears to be a change of culture. Outing a player is thin ice.
He went a little too far. The problem wasn’t the comments but that he undermined the coaches, which is their job to make comments like this (when warranted).
It sounds like frustration. He's airing it out there because the culture is sick. It's really worrisome to me honestly. That said, I have set the lowest bar ever for this team at this point. 6 wins will seem like a natty to me now. I get the whole keep it in the locker room thing, but that's just not how things are anymore. Anywhere. If there is poison in the locker room - talk about it and make it right.
Actually, he did. He pointed out Christian Jones and a couple other lineman. It's kind of a double edged sword. I can see Sarks point and agree that that level of criticism should be kept in house. But as a fan it was nice to see that kind of commitment and leadership from a player.
First of all I want to say I am a Moro Ojomo fan. I agree with everything he said. The fact that he uses the wrong forum is totally forgivable, considering the circumstances. When you go 12, T W E L V E years talking about fixing these culture problems, and they're still not fixed through 3 coaches, then it's high time for somebody to have the GUTS to make a PUBLIC STATEMENT and deliver a WAKE UP CALL!
Sark was fine with what he said. Just not where he said it. Sark also said "Make sure you mow your own lawn first". So, it sounds like Ojomo may have some issues himself.
I like the unmute button... sometimes best in the lockerroom.... regardless: No more entitlement!! You WORK and EARN a place to contribute to the program at The University. We are all for serious ambition, initiative, personal pride & goals PLUS YOU inspiring others to step up to totally focus on WINNING for UT !!!
For sure...Now you are (publicly) PAID. The coaches are going to have to adjust to that, as well. That's probably more of an adjustment for them than the players, honestly.
it's drama so it's overblown obviously. i think he just needed to take the names out and he would have been fine. Sark is right about family. naming names is putting family business out there. he gets an A for passion, mission, and ferocity, but doesn't get the "+" for using names. he'll learn. no big deal.
But we were discussing Sark's reaction. Sark was talking about the entirety of his comments in which he did name names.
Ojomo Quote O’ Day should be a video blog where he talks good-natured trash about his teammates, a la Letterman style.
