A superb article on why (including the psychology of why) nationalism is rising in the US and Europe and some the globalist fallacies of the nationalists' motives. Link.
Good article. The summary paragraph is telling: "If the story I have told here is correct, then the globalists could easily speak, act, and legislate in ways that drain passions and votes away from nationalist parties, but this would require some deep rethinking about the value of national identities and cohesive moral communities. It would require abandoning the multicultural approach to immigration and embracing assimilation." Restated: The Liberals can stop the trend of Republicans gaining momentum if they quit acting like liberals. Specifically: Immigration: - stop letting illegal immigrants into the country - stop letting authorized immigrants into the country that have no intention of assimilating - stop sanctuary cities - stop providing welfare benefits to illegals and authorized legal immigrants Assimilation: - stop passing laws that favor one racial group over another - stop the national political rhetoric favoring one racial group over another - punish bad behavior of groups that block highways, etc. just as you would punish any other group that disrupted normal, necessary activities - stop bilingual education - stop "celebrating diversity" and simultaneously pushing for equal results instead of equal opportunity Other: - stop allowing foreign states to subsidize economic interests that compete against domestic economic interests with no penalty
Did the article Deez, this article is a joke, as if globalist aren't authoritative either. Just another means to smear conservatives.

The article's conclusions were accurate. Namely, globalism and the neo-liberal policies of open borders and erosion of traditional culture will fail because of the inevitable backlash. And yes, globalists are authoritarian also. The difference is that conservative authoritarianism answers to the public which is in rebellion. Neo-Liberal authoritarianism answers to elite corporatists who control the government.
I don't agree with everything the article says, but you're looking at one relatively small point. Smearing conservatives is far from the overriding agenda of the article.
Look up moral narcissism. https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/moral-narcissism-least-great-generation/
Nationalism is generally triggered by a rejection of globalism. This happens because of cultural reasons, but can also happen for economic reasons. Blaming the rise of nationalism can also be shared by both the right and left. The opening of borders and forced mixing of cultures without assimilation generates resentment and blame is assigned the left. Off shoring of jobs, international mobility of capital (the displacement of production facilities), and the downward pressure on labor associated with these changes is blamed on the right. The entire process - both the liberal and conservative components - is termed neoliberalism.
