We get #2 in the Midwest. UH gets #1 despite dropping their championship game b Iowa State and aggy are also in the Midwest bracket.
I actually think Texas got screwed here. 3rd 2 seed. Won the best conference. And beat a 1 twice like a drum in 7 days. Then Aggie in 2nd round was a 4/5 seed based on ranking. Clearly conference tourney means absolutely nothing.
I expected that aggy would be potential second round, just raises the stakes. Selection committee put three Texas schools in the same bracket with the final four in Houston this year.
We beat Xavier in Sweet 16 in 1990 at Reunion Arena in Dallas during Pender days. I was lucky enough to be in the small pep band that got to travel that year. Beat Georgia and Purdue in Indy in first 2 rounds. It was a magical run until we ran into Nolan Richardson led Hogs in the great 8. Lost to them 3 times that year.
The word all year that the Big 12 is the toughest conference did not match the selection committee's choices. According to my count: Bigg10--- 8 teams SEC--- 7 teams Big12--- 7 teams. I think OSU got hosed.
I remember it well. Basketball was the most exciting thing on campus during the early Tom Penders years. BMW + Panama Myers and Locksley Collie
It starts to sound more reasonable when thought about like this: Big Ten -- 8 of 14 teams SEC — 7 of 14 teams Big XII -- 7 of 10 teams
Here’s the last play of game vs Purdue. It was in the old Hoosier Dome filled with Purdue fans. I thought Gene Keady’s comb over was going to unravel he was so mad.
