Interactive bracket to follow all the games: http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/baseball/d1/2017 Info on Long Beach Regional where Horns are two seed: http://ev6.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncomm...inkID=twcsulb&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode
The Stanford regional began yesterday (to accommodate BYU's desire to avoid Sunday games). Cal State Fullerton crushed the Mormons 13-2, while Stanford beat up on Sacramento State, 10-0.
Tough to beat a team 4 times in a season..........but the Horns did! Horns scored late runs for the win, and beat a pitcher that will be a high draft pick. May have to face another top pitcher tomorrow assuming LBSU plays their #2 pitcher tonight.
Horns take opening game of Long Beach Regional 3-2 over UCLA beating Bruins for the fourth time this season. Summary from texassports: http://www.texassports.com/news/2017/6/2/kingham-veterans-lead-baseball-past-ucla-3-2.aspx Horns take on Long Beach State tonight in a winners bracket game and taking me back to my college days when LBSU came to the Austin regional a couple of times in '91 and '92.
Some interesting upsets yesterday as number 2 national seed UNC loses to 4 seed Davidson, number 8 national seed Stanford loses to Fullerton (in winners bracket game as that regional started Thursday, if CSF wins that regional and Texas can win the LB regional the Horns would likely host super), Florida State (paired up with Tech) loses to 4 seed Tennessee Tech, UH loses to 4 seed Iowa and aggy in that regional with UH and paired up with UNC for supers beats Baylor. Top national seed Oregon State got its 50th win of the year yesterday to go to a ridiculous 50-4 on the season.
This would be HUGE!!! coming back to Austin. Also, better hope UCLA gets taken out today; as has been pointed out, winning 3 in a row over a team is tough, Horns just won 4th in a row over UCLA, if the Bruins can dig out of the losers bracket and the Horns get to the regional finals as well, would mean the Horns would have to go 5 in a row over them or then go 5 of 6. Other comment on yesterday's game: This has been a remarkable year IMHO for Horns Baseball. I think earlier in this year, this kind of game the Horns would have lost, probably by 1 run. They got up, almost got caught, but with great defense and timely hitting, held on to beat a really good team and great opposing pitcher on the road. The body language of the team and coaches suggested, "no problem, we got this"; they're growing as a team, even if they don't get to Omaha, they've done an outstanding turnaround job returning the Horns to year end regional play. Where they should be every year. Hook 'em
Yes, and I think they would have won the B12 tourney if the final was 2 out of 3 (like the super regionals). So, I don't take the finals loss too seriously. I like the double elimination tourney followed by 2 out of 3 like in the regionals and super regionals. This is repeated of course at the CWS. Horns are getting there. Good story.
Hopefully ESPN will put us on the deuce and move OU to ESPNN. If not, we'll likely start on ESPNN, and move to ESPN2 when OU is through.
Horns give up a run in 1st inning on a brain fart. 1st and 3rd on, 2 outs, 1-2 pitch. Dirt bags go for 2nd, Cantu throws to 2nd but no one covers in time. Runner from 3rd walks home.
