I'm looking for recipes (or ideas) that would be good as a group activity. We're going on vacation in a couple of weeks and will be visiting a friend who loves to cook (as do I). We had such a great time making dinner together last year and would like to do it again. We made coq au vin last year, which is not difficult but involves a lot of steps and ingredients, so it was a great dish for the two of us to tackle. (Paella has already been rejected.) Thanks!
Paella was my first thought. Any reason you can share about why it was rejected? The other thought would be that you could do a bit of a theme type deal, where each person does seperate dishes, but that you plan them all out together before hand.
He's kind of meh on paella; doesn't like the dish enough to expend the effort. I should clarify that it's just two of us cooking, plus our spouses (who will not be cooking) so it's more of a "shared" activity, rather than group.
Gumbo -- someone stirs the roux, while someone else preps the meat (shreds chicken, preps seafood, etc.), and someone else dices the veggies, etc. You can take turns stirring the roux -- a good community task. And, many beers can be shared during the process.
I was going to say gumbo as well... You could make assorted Enchiladas with various stuffings and sauces, that's pretty labor intensive. The more scratch you go the more labor inensive it is. Puffy tacos, san antonio style are also good as you almost need two people to crank them out fast enough for folks to get them while they are hot.
If this were Christmas eve, you could make TAMALES!!! Pork Chicken Cheese Beef Pepper My mouth is F'ing WATERING!!
how can someone not just go crazy over paella? lol... just joking, but that is hard for me to compute... lol.
Literally every time I say "Tapas Bar" in Dallas, people think that I'm saying "Topless Bar". It's both funny and annoying. But I guess that it is just such a part of the culture in Dallas that it's expected.
