Somebody rush me over some Prozac. The NCAA enforcement division? Who knew they had one? Was it created for NIL? Will they be using the same private investigation firms that were so wonderful in the late 70s, 80s, & into the 90s?

I guess it could be worse. We could be faced with being investigated by Mark Dennard's granddaughter's pre-K class at College Station Elementary.

We already know those kids would be smarter.

    I loved this part
"The Board did not pass any new rules, but instead notified schools not to be surprised if they're investigated for violating the existing ones -- specifically, rules prohibiting pay-for-play deals that are now frequently used as inducements to enroll at a given school out of high school, to transfer to a given school, or not to to transfer away from a given school."

I think, of all people, Bob Stoops made a comment recently about teams needing to disband from NCAA if they don't reign in Aggy.......uh I mean those teams cheating with NIL stuff.

I guess this was their pitiful attempt to appease schools, specifically Bama and other SEC schools. Probably Pac 12, too.

Geez, not that I move the needle on tv ratings,,,, but I do see a day coming where I do other things in Saturdays unless somehow this gets wrangled.
I did part ways with the NFL, but I had no idea that bidding wars for players would happen. This will have a negative impact on NCAA sports viewership.
So a senior makes this?? More than a NFL player, geez.
I understand this is rumor, but I agree- no thanks.

The NIL is ruining College football, if it hasn't already done so. unless the NCAA comes up with standards, enforcement of the standards and severe penalties for their violation. Right now, it's the wild wild west and anything goes. Look at aggy. My understanding was the gave each player who committed got a NIL deal and the dollar amount was not small. That clearly wasn't the intent of the rule, but look what's happening. I understand that many players on scholarship come from families that may be very poor and are struggling, but paying them what amounts to a signing bonus that are 7 figures in some cases before their cleats hit the field makes them a pro player, not an amature. I am interested to see how much ticket prices go up if they do go up. The NCAA needs to grow a pair and get this crap-show under control.

On the other hand, I wouldn't oppose a rule requiring a player that gets an NIL deal has to play all 4 years they are eligible at the school they signed with, 5 if they redshirt, and also can't jump as a junior to the NFL, nor can they transfer out of one college program to another. Probably won't fly though.

See the NCAA history. They will grab some Directional school from Idaho or Montana to make an example of, thump their chest and declare that things are under control, at least until the Indianapolis Idiots discover that third team players at SC, aTm, and Ohio State are making four times the salary of the entire executive suite at NCAA offices.

I agree, the NCAA enforcement is made up of a bunch of Eunuchs afraid of their own shadow. But, they did find a way to make money without having to do anything.

You guys are so cynical. NCAA is toothless? Next thing is a loud chorus of "water is wet"

The NCAA is toothless because the college football powers have wanted that to be the case. If they wanted it to be poking around it would have canines the size of Earl's calves

What I love is the sporting press expressing shock: they have been whining about the poor athletes getting nothing but free educations forever and now they are shocked

Can you believe some unscrupulous boosters would do this?

You are correct in that it’s a self-serving enterprise. But, to keep it going, they need a semblance of self-government, self-correction, and enforcement mechanism, whether it be the ncaa or through the media.

If somebody starts trying to put a corral around this mess now there will be howls about how the racist white men are trying to take the Ferrari away from the golden geese

Like Claytie said in a different context, "just lay back and enjoy it".

The game as we imagined it is gone

Yes, NIL is a cluster. And yes, there is no policing body with any teeth, or testicles. But I don’t think that the game will change dramatically, or that interest will wane appreciably. There’s just too much passion and too much money for that to happen. Will the disparity between the haves and the have nots widen? Probably. But frankly, that divide is already pretty large.

When players are 100% free agents to go where they want to the highest bidder you bet the game has changed. The reason I stopped watching pro ball was the constant fight over money between millionaires and billionaires resulting in players constantly changing teams. I wasn't a fan of the Cowboys organization, I was a fan of Roger, Randy White, Ed Jones, Emmitt Smith, Drew Pearson, etc which as a whole made me a Cowboys fan. Now there's no team loyalty and I don't want to spend the time to get to know them because they aren't playing for the organization and they'll be gone looking for more money.

College will still be better but we should expect 40-50% turnover every year. The saving grace is that some of these guys will make more in college than they could in the NFL so it might make them stay a little longer, just maybe not here.

It will be interesting to see if the NFL makes any changes to the rookie compensation structure. Certainly some players won’t have the financial incentive to jump after three years. That being the case, a top draft choice might wait an extra year, particularly if he can avoid going to a team that he doesn’t like…
