New Softball Facility

We are hosting SEC Softball Tourney in like 2032 or 2033. I think it's safe to say we have a new softball facility by then.

I have not seen any commitment to the women’s program or statement by CDC to even assume Texas will improve or upgrade our Softball stadium by then.

Neither have I. I'm just hoping with the quality facilities in the SEC and Davis Diamond right up the road, hosting the touney in '32 or '33 will bring a very bright spotlight on Texas Softball.

My SEC friends tell me McCombs is simply not good enough. But the University boxed in the facility with those graduate dorms. Otherwise, this could have been a major renovation.

Does this mean a Texas Death Match at the Hogg?
Nope, pretty much old people like me and a handful of rich donors CDC has to keep sucking up to. The last time I asked about a new softball stadium, he said he had to get that indoor football practice facility up and going first, and then there was a secondary item after that. Maybe something related to track and field. In other words, softball was not on his radar. And now, we need to get beach volleyball courts built!

This is where I ask two questions:
1. I guess you can't contribute to the Texas ONE fund and make it counts towards Loyalty Points as if we contributed to the Longhorn Foundation

2. Texas is entering the SEC which is a serious softball conference. I know you can't build a new stadium, but could you upgrade the current one like putting in seats to replace the bleachers?

I couldn’t find any mention of the softball facility in the CDC town hall meeting?? I guess it is still on the back burner?? Of course he mentioned the possibility of a new volleyball complex in the future. I guess softball needs to win a National Championship to get his attention.
Missed me by a minute!

OU has basically turned into UCONN women's basketball terminator domination the last few years. Good for them. Can't argue with dominance. If we can get there and win a few nattys, the upgrades will come.
The irony of how OU turned around. Patty asked for a raise, Joe C said "No" and then she was moving back to CA. Was going to play out the last year of her contract. Husband moved back to CA a year ahead to start up his landscaping business and then lo-and-behold she wins the Natty in her last year.

And she got the raise.

Racer, do you think we must win a Championship before we have a serious conversation about a new facility? Somehow Texas Football's success this year, and seeing how everyone in the SEC has these huge celebration displays before and during games has me excited to visit all the great softball facilities in our league. With so many eyes on our program this year...it could be a special year.
Soccer, Volleyball and Football are all seeing record crowds on the road and at home. I'm excited to see what's ahead for Texas Softball.

I believe that it's going to take 2-4 years of being in the SEC and having teams snickering at the sub-par conditions of our stadium as compared to theirs before CDC will find the money to build a new stadium. It's been made clear that, after the football practice facility, the next priority for CDC is a new volleyball-only building.

You would think playing for the title 2 out of the last 3 years might generate some excitement from sports administration, but volleyball has actually WON championships, plural.

I think in CDC's mind, he built Mike White a spanking new practice facility and that's gotta do for a few years.

Actually, I thought of this some more.

1. The practice/development facility was part of the "promise" that CDC made to Mike White on his hiring away from Oregon.

2. With the upcoming NIL/scholarship lawsuit settlement, the budget for Texas is in flux. So, CDC clamping down on future (2-6 year) spending until he can see how this affects his budgets.

Could the project be jumpstarted by outside money? The way Love Field is being funded? Y'all gotta excuse my ignorance in this area. Just think if there was some type of official drive for funding it could happen. I would definitely give and I gotta believe there many here like myself. We are Texas.

Who gives a rat's rear what conference fans think of McCombs?
Let them snicker while getting beat by Texas.

The issue is where to put the new baseball and softball facilities. If in the same area, the baseball facility would be built first, and then the softball facility would be built on the "old" DF site.

WE SHOULD CARE. I would like to see our Ladies shown in the best way possible.
Sometimes we have not cause we ask not... :bevo:

That's easy... My version would be to move McCombs to the baseball facility and customize it for the best softball stadium in the nation. Then use the entire blocks of real estate from Comal to Leona and MLK to E. 21st. for the new Disch-Falk baseball stadium :hookem:

With all this discussion, I was thinking, "Why do we want a new stadium so badly?"

Is it keeping up with the Jones'? Yeah, maybe. Is it to help improve our team? Then how does that improve? Is it so that I can sit in an actual molded seat instead of bleacher seats? For sure.

OU seemed to do well for many, many years before they built their new shiny place. And, with our old stadium, we've been in 2 of the 3 last championships.

One thing I was going to write CDC about is the comparison about his 3 coaches that head the 3 women's programs where I put my money down for season tickets: volleyball, basketball, and softball.

Of the three coaches, Mike White does the absolute least outreach to fans and donors. And on the opposite end of the spectrum Jerritt Elliot does the absolute most.

If the head coach isn't out there banging the pots and pans for a new stadium, and it's us fans wanting to keep up with the Jonses, then maybe we shouldn't be holding our breath about a new stadium anytime soon.

I thought I was of the majority, that a new stadium was wanted. Didn't think I'd read reasons not to have better, which is easy to compose. Got a feeling this will be an awesome year. :bevo:

I am a big proponent of a new stadium, especially seeing now that the stands are often crowded and reserved seats are sold out, according to athletics. Also, as mentioned before, my poor back has to be constantly adjusted by my chiropractor after 3 day games.

But, the upcoming agreement about NIL, scholarships, and roster limits makes everything financially murky. The schools have to "pay back" former players for missed NIL opportunities they could have had while they were at school.

While this is not happening, it's like saying, "Okay, Cat was a big draw at McCombs. She should have made...let's say at least $100K while she was here. So we need to pay her $25K over the next 4 years"

Is OU, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee going to have the same problem? Yes. But they already have their nice stadium and we have something that's not so shiny.

During the last two years, as we've had visitors come play at our stadium, we sit right behind where opposing student managers/interns sit where they chart the pitches as well as use a speed gun at-bats. I've asked them, "Hey, what do you think of our stadium? As compared to yours or others you've played against?"

They all....taken a breath, thought to themselves, "Okay. Don't blurt out what you think" and diplomatically said that our stadium is a bit sub-standard compared to others (especially in the SEC).

I've written to CDC about that, as diplomatically as I could, and his answer to that and to all others that have griped has been, "Well, do you want to contribute?"

And that comes back to my opinion that Mike White has zero fan/booster engagement and we don't feel like launching into a GoFundMe for a new stadium.

Yes, I would love a new stadium. But my passion for it has dropped from a 9 to about a 4 with all the new factors that have to be factored into the budget.

I don't see us getting a new stadium or it even being considered. Red McCombs was a magnanimous donar to Texas and the new training facility is there. CDC will not change that.

And for gosh sakes no one cares what the SEC thinks about our stadium but the recruits do!! It's all about the recruits! The University of Texas has the smallest capacity stadium, 1254 seats, in the SEC and the ONLY stadium without any chair back seating! We are ranked 37th in the nation in softball seating capacity. That is NOT the University of Texas standard!

McCombs stadium needs major renovation to make it more family and Student friendly.
1. Capacity expansion to at least 2400. The original design for McCombs was for a capacity of 2400. Unfortunately the Player development facility may have been built in the area of original expansion.
2. A cover or canopy over the seating area! This is the first thing Mike White asked for when he came to Texas. It is miserable to set in the Austin heat during a day game.
3. Why not have a Yeti Yard standing/seating area in the outfield like the baseball field. This can't be an expensive upgrade?
4. Fans standing on the left outfield fence. Like the occupy left field group at the baseball stadium. This needs to been named and made unique to McCombs field.
And other upgrades possible to promote the atmosphere!

I agree 100% with Racer that Mike White has no fan/booster engagement skills. He just doesn't seem to put out the effort. Maybe he is working behind the scenes but you wouldn't know it. You see Schlosnagle everywhere on X promoting Texas and his program. But give credit to Coach White he has done a great job of recruiting under the circumstances. I wonder what kind of promises he is making these recruits? "Upgrades are coming!" Most of his top recruits are from Texas so the brand alone sells itself. But imagine what a great shiny new facility would do!
I am very frustrated just like most of you softball fans and guess I am venting but come on CDC the softball team is well deserving!
Attached is the list of softball facility seating capacities in the NCAA

Gregory is allsome. A new softball stadium makes much more sense to me than volleyball. That place rocks!

Facetious meter alert?!?!
Sorry, but the Greg was a dump when I was there 50 years ago.
They have remodeled Gregory since 50 years ago... It still has that "older" look, but always fun to go there and watch the Longhorns win (if there are seats avail). But they do need more volleyball seating. :hookem: Does "Soccer or Swimming" sell out every game? I don't think we can point this to sports attendance. A new or renovating the Softball stadium should be in the works within a few years. This softball program is going in the direction we want to see. :hookem:
