Next Coach

I think that with the mounting negative data points that Terry as a head basketball coach personifies mediocrity, the only questions that remain are does CdC have his guy and do the economics work in the first year of revenue sharing with the athletes and/or commitment to basketball nil. My guess is that Terry will be reassigned rather than fired if allowed under his contract. As for the optics, I would think that most coaches would understand the politics of keeping Terry after Beard violated the stupidity clause of his contract. Barnes was under a completely different AD and Shaka did not produce here for whatever reason.

NC State fired its coach only one year after a spectacular season. That university is apparently all about winning. Chop, chop Texas.

Eh, it was a pretty crappy season followed by a spectacular post season run. They would have been left out of the tourney all together had they not won the ACC tournament, but they did, qualified and continued that hot streak all the way to the final four. He would have been fired last year without the run, but alas just like mediocre coaches do they end up being average to bad.

They beat Texas Tech, Oakland and Marquette to get there...yes, Shaka's Marquette.

I'd really only be interested if there was a "transition plan" in place for either Donovan or Snyder. They're both like 60 and if they can hand-pick successors who are a little more into the NIL and portal game, I'm down. Otherwise, it'll be just as messy as it is now, but with maybe more of a scheme identity.

Regarding our next coach, the coach the team faces today would be a Final 4 coach in Austin. Prove me wrong, morons!!!

After doing more reading and talking about it with my "work friend" who shall remain nameless, I keep coming back to Mike Boynton.

Huggins and Brad Underwood coaching tree... got credit for those SFA upsets in the tournament (including over Huggins).

Knows and understands Bill Self.

Defense-first, which is what Barnes instilled from Day One when he was hired and we came out of nowhere to win the conference regular season.

Was a 3-pt specialist from his playing days in the SEC. Knows from a player standpoint what it takes to make an NCAA tournament run.

Has had a year in the B1G to see how "the other half" does it.

Has been a big part of the USA Basketball committee of coaches for the past few years. Working with those U19 teams is important to get a feel for how the game is changing and what its stars need.

I think he inherited a ****** deal at OK State. On probation from the Underwood days. No one can win it all with a roster of Cade Cunningham and a bunch of scrubs, much like Barnes couldn't with Durant. I think if we got behind him and gave him resources to do whatever it takes in terms of NIL and the portal, he really could be a find. I don't think he has the snarky leadership of Beard or the positivity of Shaka, but I also don't doubt that he'll be a good HC somewhere.

I mean, Rick is 70 and doing OK. But there a genetically different 60yos. Some are younger and some aren't.

Tomorrow or Monday for the official word that we will be getting a new coach?
My guess is that they've already told Terry that he's out. Probably have to dot all the i's before they can tell everyone there's a search, but privately, are waiting on some search committee members to finish reaching out to potential coaches.

If their big targets are guys currently in the NCAA tournament (McCasland), then they'll stall the time frame kind of like baseball did.

Lots of buzz that it's happened. Just awaiting all the officialeze...

Question: anyone have any info on how Florida found Todd Golden. He was an assistant at Auburn and right before Fla. he was an assistant and then head coach at U San Fran. No high level experience but he has been an absolute HR for them.

I heard Ivy'
I wish it didn't have to be so public. Coach Terry is a classy nice guy and was a great ***;t coach. ONLY wish him the Very Best

I agree, but he's in a very public job at THE most public university in the world. I'm sure he knew that when he took the job.

Good point Vol. His remarks yesterday showed he understood very well as he made his own case for another job.
Nothing wrong with that and probably not reasonable of me to have expected more.
