Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo ... said the takeover harms children and our democracy. "I've been very clear," Hidalgo said, "and I'll continue to be very clear about how this is part of a pattern of the state taking over the duties and the duly elected leadership in Harris County simply because the voters didn't vote in the way that the state likes it." My fav, Lina. 'Nothing to do with politics': Politicians on both sides being vocal about what HISD takeover means
Yes! I vote for the woman who thought NASA landed on Mars instead of the moon. U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee announces she will run for mayor of Houston
More a case of her being appointed mayor by Rodney Ellis. If by some great miracle, she was to lose, she doesn't have to give up her Congressional seat to run.
Given the field of dems who have announce, Sly should be SheJack, but I don't believe either beats John Whitmire. And with that projection, I also expect to see SheJack playing the race card and Sly endorse his version of Ray Nagin's dream of a Chocolate City.
I loved my time in Houston, but I do not miss living there. It only gets worse if SJL starts running it.
Hard to believe Nagin has been released from prison already thanks to COVID. Otherwise, he'd still be behind bars for two more months.
iii, Make sure to know that SJL will make few, if any changes in the way the city is run. It will still be run by Rodney Ellis. Only difference is that Turner really doesn't have his "own language" of made up words. Neither is she as slick or as sharp as Turner when it comes to "spreading the wealth". Maybe we should start a calcutta for when the first indictment comes down.
The fact that SJL might be a serious candidate for Mayor of Houston is absolutely baffling to me. It must be a city of lunatics now. Dallas elected Eric Johnson, and though he's pretty liberal, he wasn't an be embarrassment before getting elected. SJL is.
Because what was really bad about Lori Lightfoot was that she was too tough on teachers unions, or so says the voters in the Windy City. Chicago is a fuckin' disgrace. They ousted a bad mayor and decided to do even worse. They deserve the hideous crime and corruption they're going to get. Link.
Lori Lightfoot calls BS on teachers unions. Again, she lost because of the one thing she was right about.
I wonder why Lori decided that was the political hill to die on. She had to know Dems would hate her for it, and she isn't selecting enough conservative things to be labeled a Republican.
Because it shouldn't have been a hill to die on. The people closing schools should have been dying on a hill. And she knows the closures hurt black kids and families more than anyone else. They had good reason to ***** about that.
Perhaps, but frankly, what she was trying to do was right for everybody. Blacks got screwed the hardest, but children of all races and backgrounds got hurt terribly because of a few extremely self-centered and dishonest people in the education field.
