Today 9/13: Iowa v Iowa St—this is a good matchup with state bragging rights at stake. ISU will get a good test of whether they’re really Top 25 material after barely surviving against a weak team. Iowa will likely challenge mighty Wisconsin for masters of the Big 10 West. USC v BYU—this will show whether the USC train is getting back on the tracks, or is still derailed. TCU v Purdue—after an off year, can Patterson’s Frogs bounce back (nice pun Chop ) and beat a similarly solid middle-of-the-pack team from a good conference. Tech v Arizona—Bowman will test his scoreboard-breaking skills, this time against something vaguely resembling a competent major college defense. Florida St v Virginia—I suspect UVA is out of place in the Top 25. We’ll see pretty quick whether they belong.
Iowa-Iowa State seems to be the best of very uninteresting games. Even the few conference games should not be competitive. Standford at UCF could be interesting. Sand aggy is off next week but go to Norman the following week and hosts OSU the following week. That will be the story of sand aggy. As far as Virginia goes, I am not sure I have ever seen a basketball natty increase the ranking of the football team.
K State/Miss State; W Va/NC State; and Temple/Maryland are all close games so far. I'm doing a lot of channel flipping.
Mississippi State just faked an injury after KSU ran for a long first down to the 12. Dude just sitting there sipping Gatorade, then running off easily.
K State just opened up a little breathing room against Mississippi State. EDIT--that didn't last long. Mississippi State just threw great, long TD pass with seconds left in first half.
KSU may not be a powerhouse, but it looks like they are coming together as a team. Not a gimme for anybody.
Always enjoy when #13 Penn State struggles and or loses. They are tied with unranked Pitt 10-10 at the half. Pitt playing them tough so far...
Backup qb for Mississippi aggy juices up the dawgs, take the lead. Ksu is going to have to win in a second half shootout because they had no answer for the new qb on that last drive.
KSU had picked off a pass and would have started in the red zone, but the defender fumbled it back to the offense who then went on an 80 yd drive. Virginia Tech finally takes the lead but Furman is driving. Go Paladins go!
Kansas State punt returner runs up 15 yards and dives to catch a tipped punt that only made it about halfway to where he was initially standing, and muffs it, allowing Mississippi State to recover. Wildcats have lost 3 fumbles, none by the offense.
WV v NC State is a good game. I was sort of hoping WV would turn into an automatic win since we don’t seem to have any of those left in the Big 12. They’re no automatic win. I hate those bright yellow jerseys WV sports.
Maryland missed on 3 trips inside 10y/l, 2 inside the the 1 and 0 points. Temple 20 Maryland 15 2:00 to play.
