We get dessert about twice a year around here. Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have been unable to get Mrs Idahorn2 to make anything other than pecan pie for some time now. I am not complaining, really, but a lemon meringue every now and then would be OK. Vanilla, sugar, dark Karo, eggs, pecans, and a crust. I love it with a great cup of coffee.
without a doubt my favorite pie. try using steen's instead of karo if you can find it. also, adding a little kahlua and a tsp of instant coffee makes a nice variation, as does chocolate.
add the following to a standard pecan recipe: 1/2 -1 cup chocolate (preferably shaved but chips work too but don't look as good) 1/4 Gran Marnier and you'll have everybody loving your pecan pie
Or simply have a Goode & Co. Pecan Pie shipped to you for next to nothing. Under $20 and F'Ing AWESOME!!!
The first time I made a homemade pecan pie, I was astounded at how much suger was in the damn thing. Not just granular sugar, but the Karo and such. Jeeeee-sus. That said, the coffee addtion, along with chocolate shavings, and a spalsh of whisky makes the best death-by-food ever invented.
