Yesterday was the 85th birthday for the housewife from Alton, IL. Not since Mary, Mother of Jesus has one woman done so much to save the world.

I like that she bore a gay son, other than that, I'm glad she's old as the hills. One of her quotes: "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape."

The only one of those that's objectionable is the one about Indians, and that's at least somewhat understandable given the time period in which she was educated.

Yeah, she's right up with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Sgt. Yorke in my book.

Schlafly was a hateful, ugly spirit (by my lights), but she was also an interesting person of conviction. She gets points for that. Like Montgomery Burns, another hateful cartoon(ish) presence, she will one day die. Can't be all bad.

I thought Ann Coulter was the greatest American, closely followed by Joseph McCarthy and Henry Kissinger. Has that list been revised?
