Very strange play calling in OT. 3rd down in first OT, he takes the ball out of mayfield's hands and runs a slow developing half assed sweep to the boundary. Never had a chance. A td would have won it. Second OT possession, two Greg Davis type calls puts them at third and long. Block fg ensued. Ou choked. It was there for them and they blew it
They'll be better on defense next year. Will they be good? I don't know. But better than this outfit. Obo and Parker are the significant losses. **** started downhill after the failed pooch kickoff. it was a momentum swinger.
Fortunately for everyone else, Okoronkwo is gone. Unfortunately for everyone else, Jordan Thomas is gone too.
LOL You could argue we controlled our own destiny by going .500 and making sure we got to a bowl we could actually win. After all we got a trophy that says we are Texas Bowl Champions. Eat THAT Riley!
That's right about the pooch kick. That was a huge momentum changer. 2 score game from 3 score right before half was a big deal.
While I think that it is great that Colt McCoy and Sam "I never won a big game in my life" Bradford are close, life long personal friends, I believe the out come is the same with Snowflake or Sam. The only difference being that Sam is a truly honorable man.
Disagree. Georgia won by shutting down the run and attacking Mayfield in the second half. Put the game on Mayfield and he folds. He always did his whole career. He was the weak link in OU’s offense. Put in a better QB like Bradford that can make the throws Mayfield cannot and the OU offense is pretty unstoppable.
I think they put pressure on Mayfield in the second half with both straight up play and some blitzes. We took our foot off of the gas a little as far as tempo goes and it hurt us. Another key difference is that this was the first defense that we played that had the horses to play the kind of coverage that they played while blitzing. Historically, Mayfield shredded blitzes with wide open people as he scrambled. He was not as able to scramble and people like the Mackey Award winning tight end were covered up tight.
Hit most QB's repeatedly early and hard, and they become somewhat ineffective. However, for some reason hitting Bomar, Bradford and Mayfield hard early reduced them to less than adequate.
Heismans have not meant much for awhile. We when played Alabama, they gave to Bama’s second best running back. The award has mostly recently gone to the “face” of a team in the running for the national title. Malik Jefferson generated 0 turnovers this year and our defense was better without him in the Texas Bowl, yet he won “big 12 defensive player of the year.” Do not put too much stock in subjective awards.
On top of that list^, ou will also be losing -- TE Mark Andrews and OT Orlando Brown Jr. who have both declared for the NFL Draft.
