Watching the Phillies/Giants game tonight, my girlfriend noticed that the sign in rightfield that lists the number of splash hits showed "55". Does anyone know if this is the total number of homers hit into the water by the Giants since the ballpark opened? Just curious. It turns out we were at AT&T park to watch the RedSox and Giants this past June and we watched David Ortiz absolutely crush one into the water off Lincecum and the sign read "52" at that time and they didn't update it after Ortiz's homer. Doesn't surprise me that they don't count opponents' homers, but if they've only hit 3 in the drink since last June, that must mean that 55 is the current total alltime hit into the bay. Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, the only splash hits that are counted are those hit by Giants players, and the total dates back to 2000, the year the park opened. The vast majority of those are from Barry Bonds, as you might imagine. The current team is all about the pitching, not power hitting (although Cody Ross might beg to differ).
