Even if you normally hate motor sports, you're gonna love this. Amazing! Video game move in real life!

Chastain rode the wall the last lap at Martinsville (short slower track) with the pedal to the metal and got the last playoff spot!

 

Great move to get him to the Championship 4 just beating out Denny Hamlin!

 

The Indy 500 runs today.
This is one of those great spectacles in sports. Similar to the Kentucky Derby, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Daytona 500, etc.

The favorites are:

O’Ward
Dixon
Palou
Rossi (my favorite of the current racers)

Should be some great entertainment.

Dixon starts in the 6th position
Rossi starts in the 7th position

Sato starts in the 8th position
Castroneves starts in the 20th position (you can never count the Brazilian out)

 

Winning the all-name team is Rookie “Sting Ray Robb.”

Yes, that’s his real name.

 

Andretti (Marco) starts in 24th.

Gotta mention him.

 

Couple of wrecks around 70-80 laps. Palou was in a minor crash.

O’Ward, Rossi, Rosenquist (Sweden), and Kanaan are hanging around the top 10.

 

Sting Ray Robb crashed and is out. Brief interview afterwards. Nice kid. Very young to be out there.

Ferrucci takes the lead for the AJ Foyt team.

 

Final pit stops. Look for another shake up.

 

O’Ward with an extra fast pit took the lead.

 

Big crash. Kirkwood. Rosenquist. Kirkwood flips upside down! Even worse, a tire bounced over the wall into the stands (or over the stands). Doesn’t look good.

 

Emergency personnel pulled Kirkwood out. He’s lucky to be alive. The tire bounced over the fence and (fortunately) in between two grandstands. It probably hit an RV or something. Hopefully nobody got killed. 180 mph tires can kill spectators. If that tire had landed in the stands we’d have a handful of dead spectators.

 

Kirkwood is raising his hand up and sitting up on the stretcher as they wheel him away. Red flag.

 

They’re removing the debris. 14 laps to go when they restart. When the restart happens, some of the main contenders will be:

Ferrucci
O’Ward
Ericsson
Rossi
Newgarden
Pellou

 

Results from that tire that bounced over the fence at racing speed: No deaths. No fan injuries. One sedan wrecked.

 

Race car drivers tend to have rather attractive wives.

 

Restart! Newgarden passed O Ward for the lead.

 

O’ Ward crashed hard.

 

Now some laggard car plows into O’Ward. Those two are through.

 

Another red flag.

 

It was some Argentine dude that plowed into the back of O’Ward long after the initial wreck.
