that we have been searching for since Mack left............team effort was top notch throughout...........defense while still work in progress is def better.............same goes for OL.............hopefully this atmosphere and effort will convince many of the rec. that were there that this ship under Sark is fixing to sail and we need to jump on...........proud of the team for standing toe to toe with the Red elephant and not blinking!
Yesterday was impressive and I agree that Sark is definitely showing signs that he is finally the answer. But I want to see that consistently throughout the year and not one time early in the season. I have a good feeling about what is to come but I also have a decade plus of disappointment that tempers my optimism. Starts next week against a UTSA team that is anything but a glorified scrimmage. They better take the Roadrunners seriously because that team is coming to Austin with one hell of chip on their shoulder and a ton to prove.
Yeah- lets tap the brakes here. It's one close loss and in the end it was a loss. I remember walking out of Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and people thinking the same about Tommy Boy. Hell, we were all on a high after Charlie pulled out the OT win over the domers. Let's start by seeing how quickly the QB whisperer can get Card ready for UTSA.
IF (and that's a big if), we play the rest of the season with the intensity we managed against 'Bama, we will be really hard to beat.
If you listen to the players that intensity and purpose will be there all season. And why shouldn't it? The team went head to head with the No 1 team and for much of the game out played and out coached them. Did you notice you didn't see any single "look at me " celebrations by players like Ford after a tackle? THIS is what Coach Sark created, a TEAM.
Because most teams go through emotional peaks and valleys during a season, despite the best efforts of coaches to instill the notion of playing to a standard. When you see a team playing to a standard, it is usually a well seasoned, battle tested group. We're very young for the most part.
I agree SN The players I listened to were the ones who were there last year. I think they will as you say "play to a standard"(great phrase) all season. Next week will be a good test.
Team sounds, looks, and "feels" different than during TH or CS. I dont see nor feel what was after UGA or ND..or USC at home, personally. As for culture or program foundation, etc..go ahead and throw in player development, depth chart, and other on the field stuff, too....Signs point to a new day on the 40. Even the narrative...starting to shift. Now, as for this season...reason to be concerned will be time missed by Ewers (easy to see the difference between he and Card) and an inexperienced oline that didn't really block very well in the run game in not only yesterdays game but even week 1....These two things likely will limit us the first half or more of this season, BUT the future looks bright ATM....and I never personally viewed things in the same manner after any of the afore mentioned premature "We're Back" parties.
At this point, we don't even know if it will be Card or Wright, Malik. And just how well does a hobbled Card match up with either of those? I think Sark will know best, but there's no simple solutions right now.
Any news on QE’s sprained shoulder? Never mind, should have searched: Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers Suffers Clavicle Sprain in Loss to Alabama — Sports Illustrated (SI Article linked through Apple News; hopefully no paywall.) I trust in Sark but I’m concerned about a hobbled Card at this point.
The true test of this team will be when they go into a hostile environment (like Lubbock) in a couple of weeks. They despise us like no other at this point in time. If we come out of that good, I’ll feel okay.
At one point when I was watching Card hobble off, I texted someone, "Well, this isn't exactly how I thought the Malik Murphy era at Texas would begin..." In fact if I'm Sark, I pull Malik and Charles into a room on Monday and tell them "I need to see this week that you guys at 100 percent are better than Hudson at 50 percent. Show me something this week. Take the next step."
Sangre, we will see if the team leadership is where it needs to be..........upperclassmen esp. need to hold everyone to a new standard on the 40 Acres.........
One of the players being interviewed on LHN after the game said they get better against really good competition like Alabama. Discuss…
hic Yes Sir Will discuss An analogy if you please So you want to qualify for the next Ultra teched Airbus Would you learn more applicable to new techier plane flying a crop duster Or a 320? Would Texas learn more from playing a Bama or Georgia Or a Sam Houston St Of course in Your case we know you can fly the most sophisticated planes blindfolded. It is rumored you have
What I am saying is I hope that he isn't saying, accidentally, what we have seen the last several years. Playing OU well, scoring 70 on Tech then losing to Kansas. That sort of thing. The Airbus flies me.
well hic After seeing what KU did to Wva yesterday AND looking back at our record against ku You have a frightening valid point. But I still trust Sark And I believe the players have a goal
You can see the team is very close to making a huge leap. We just need to get everyone back healthy and play our B12 slate the way it looks like we will be able to.
Our ability to come off of this and beat UTSA which we should, regardless of injuries and then go to Lubbock will be no small feat. I think this team is up for it, but I want to see it. For those concerned about the O-line ability to block the run... you realize that was a senior laden group of the best front 7 in the country right? Against multiple true freshman in 2nd start. I re-watched the game with almost all of my attention going to the line. Cole Hudson and Kelvin Banks played very very well. Even Christian Jones who I was VERY hard on last year played well. Pass protection in particular was very well executed and I had not fully realized how often Sark pulls opposite side guards for front side protection. Sure some pressure got home, but did anyone think it wouldn't? Banks and some chipping from 21 personnel neutralized their ends for much of the game. I actually could not believe how well the line played as a unit. Bama just really committed to taking away the middle and a hobbled Card plus some initially too conservative play calling played into that.
Through 14 games, Steve Sarkisian is 6-8 as the head coach at Texas. Here's how the previous six UT head coaches fared through their first 14 games: 1. Fred Akers, 13-1 2. Mack Brown, 10-4 3. David McWilliams, 8-6 4. Tom Herman, 7-7 5. John Mackovic, 6-7-1 6. Charlie Strong, 6-8
But Mack signed VY which is better than Manning. on a side note, Sark has also signed QE who has been impressive in first game and one quarter. As someone else has said, QB future looks bright.
Sometimes you just have to throw a game/season in the trash & start over. For me, '21 was a "throw it in the trash" season. Others see it differently & I respect that. Time will tell...Vamos a ver.
