Am I the only one that picked up on his comments about the iconic uniforms? What I heard was him talking about the Rose Bowl, the uniforms, the Burnt Orange, the Hook Em. After my multiple conversations since last summer, that means, "The school colors of The University of Texas are Burnt Orange & White, White & Burnt Orange, Burnt Orange & White", no other colors AND the Horns won't look like NASCAR drivers. And, yes, the words inside quotation marks are a direct quote in a one on one phone conversation from last August. I believe that the BOR, Jay Hartzell, and Chris Del Conte have delivered a message, and Steve Sarkisian received the message & bought in.
LC Thank you. How can you not be on board the Sark Express ( what else can you call a full speed ahead plan?). His confidence and ease knowing his actual success is encouraging. I admit I hoped Herman was the one. How did his first presser compare? Herman always seemed intense? not at ease? Not sure? But Darn I hope this is our Sark era Again, thanks for posting this LC I will watch it again
Yes, I did. He called me, I did not call him. I told him that if he let Herman parade that football team out in black, it would cost him $100-150 million a year for over a decade. We also talked about "The Eyes", and that's when I knew he was going to have a serious sit down with the team. Basically, he talked & I listened. The man has yet to blow smoke or sugar coat it. I trust his word, his ability, and to do what's best for The University of Texas.
He used the word, "align." Herman used the word, "alignment." That seems to be the buzz word to get everyone working together.
Hardly, although I have done business with him. He is indeed a great man, who has helped so many businessmen get rich. I wish I had positively impacted 10% of the number of lives he has.
Sabre Whether you mean to or not you are helping many of us to jump on the SarkExpress . Knowing CDC feels like us tiny people encrourages us to renew. We are not big buck people but there are a lot of us I think you try to explain who we are and I appreciate it
I'd like to see the YAC stats... it seems for Alabama, the action starts once the receiver catches the ball. The system put the ball there. Did the system create the space?
Just that it was a tad patronizing. The fact is, the players educated me about the origins of the song. So maybe it's more to soften the word to something like gaining the full perspective. But I don't think anything about his choice of word for myself. Just that it might be seen as something by others in a hyper-sensitive world. I feel we are still in a mine-field and it's critical to walk in the direction we want to walk but with light steps.
The players educated me with their perspective but I did my own learning and its not what the players believe.
They attack "The Eyes of Texas", but go to church Sunday morning and sing "Amazing Grace" They do NOW know the origin of "Amazing Grace"
There is nothing about the Eyes that is racist. That it may or may not have been performed during a minstrel show performance does not make it racist The phrase the eyes was used many times prior to Lee or Prather . The snowflakes cleverly used this issue. I hope it is done. By what did the aggrieved players say that convinced you our Eyes is racist?
6721, The origin of "the eyes" can be traced back to George Washington's inaugural speech, which Robert E Lee paraphrased some 7 decades later.
As well as the fact that the words are a good natured ribbing of the UT President, who used to go around saying "Stand up straight, the Eyes of Texas are Upon you. Don't chew with you mouth full, the Eyes of Texas are Upon you". The song is a send up of that, saying that you'll never get away from the Eyes of Texas, till Gabriel blows his horn (end of the world). The Texas President swiped that from RL Lee, who has said "The Eyes of the South are Upon You". Pretty thin line of history to conclude from all that that its racialist.
Sabre I knew it had been used before but to know this is astounding. The truth will not stop the haters But maybe our players can now understand it is not racist.
