We are in Spicewood for a couple of weeks for vacation, and today we went over to check out Spicewood Vineyards just a short distance off Highway 71. I don’t know much about wines but my wife and I love to have a glass with dinner most nights, and we tried out some wonderful wines at SV. Bought a few bottles and also some Garlic Parmesan Vinaigrette. If you were in Austin in the mid to late 80s like I was, you may remember Daniel Johnston on the music scene. The guy running SV is Ron Yates, and he worked with Daniel as a music manager at some point in his career, I don’t recall when. We talked with Ron about that today—he had some really interesting stories about Daniel and some of his original artwork. Ron is a UT grad who went to law school before finding his passion in the vineyards, and seems to be doing very well. We enjoyed talking with him and sampling some nice wines today. If you get a chance to stop by the place I really recommend it.
