The second game of the series starts at a differerent time, which is 6:30 pm. Texas hopes to find some offense and even the series.

The game is broadcast on LHN and the audio on texassports.com.

Last night's 12 inning shutout by Stanford was the longest since 1959, it could well be longer, but Stanford says they can't find any stats for it any further back.

Texas starts another freshman tonight in right hander Eric Dunbar, who pitched last night. There will more pitchers used in this early season game. Stanford has yet to announce a starting pitcher.

There was a listing error for the starter for Texas, it will be right hander Kyle Johnston.

    The starting line-ups coming up.

The starter is the hard throwing sophomore Kyle Johnston, he of the great stuff, but can struggle with command.

Another cool evening in Austin, as the second game of the series begins.

Leading off for Stanford again is lefty hitter Tommy Edman, the shortstop.
A two hopper to second and the 4-3 is the game's first out.

Quinn Brodey, bats lefty and plays left field, one gone.
Another grounder to second and another 4-3 means two away.

The second baseman is Nico Hoerner, batting right handed, with two down.
The big overhand curve sets him down swinging to retire the side on order.

Good start for Johnston and Texas in to bat for the first time.

Freshman right hander Tristan Beck will get the ball for Stanford, a tall lean hurler.

Zane Gurwitz, leads off batting righty, and plays centerfield.
He grounds the first pitch to short, the 6-3 is one away.

Bret Boswell the Horn shortstop, bats lefty with one gone.
He grounds a single up the middle through to center, for out first runner of the game.

The second sacker is Joe Baker, batting righty, one on and one down.
The count runs full and Baker swings at a fast ball a foot over his head for the K and two down.

Tres Barrera bats righty as the DH, with two outs and one on.
Boswell goes and steals the base with a good jump on a slow curve.
He is now in scoring position for Barrera.
He takes another slow curve, for strike three and the K will end the frame.

Texas strands a runner in scoring position and after one played it's 0-0.

Johnston back to the hill for his second inning of work.

Mikey Diekroeger leads off batting lefty and plays third base.
A ground ball behind the bag at third and Kody Clemens has and fires across the diamond to his brother, for a 5-3 out one.

The Cardinal catcher Alex Dunlap bats righty and catches in the game, with one down.
He flies one to center and it's two down.

The right fielder is Jonny Locher, batting righty with two away.
A high foul pop behind the plate and Barrera squeezes it to retire th side once more in order.

Bottom half of two and nothing across.

  6. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Beck back to the hill for Stanford, as the Texas second starts.

Leading off for the Horns is Michael Cantu, the righty hitting DH.
A chopper won't get over the tall pitcher, his throw to first is a 1-3 out one.

Third baseman Kody Clemens, bats lefty, with one away.
He K's looking on the slow curve, for two gone.

Ben Kennedy plays right field for the injured Mathis and bats lefty, with two down.
A ground ball to first goes 3U, the side down in order.

Two played and no runs to report.

  7. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Johnston will again take to the bump for Texas in the third.

Leading off against him is the Cardinal first baseman Matt Winaker, batting left handed.
He swings through a change, way ahead of it, for a K, one gone.

Matt Decker is the real DH in the game, batting righty, with one out.
He K's on three pitches as the big curve ball comes over the inside corner, two down.

The centerfield is righty hitting Jack Klein, with two outs.
He walk for the first Stanford base runner. He has been a tough out.

Top of the order is Edman, batting lefty one on and one down.
Another grounder to second and the 4-3 ends the inning.

Stanford gets their first runner, but nothing more.
Still zip on the board, bottom of three.

  8. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Beck is back for his third inning of work for Stanford.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty and plays first leading off.
He walks for a lead runner.

The Horn left fielder is Ty Rand, batting righty, with one on.
He will be bunting and he squares and a high inside fast ball plunks him on the hand, ouch.
    That puts two on.

The top of the order is Gurwitz, batting righty, with two on.
He will try and move the runners also.
He does and the third baseman fields and throws widely to first by the first baseman.
A run scores and runners go to second and third.

Texas leads 1-0, as their first run comes in the series, without a hit.

Boswell bats lefty, with two on in scoring position.
You got to play add on here.
A ground ball to second and with the infield back, it plates another run.

    Texas leads 2-0.

One down for Baker with one on and one down batting righty.
A passed ball off of Dunlap's mitt scores another run.

    Texas leads 3-0.

Baker back in with one down and three in without a hit.
Baker with a fly ball to the gap in right center and it falls, Baker has a stand up double.
The first extra base hit of the series for either team.

Beck has lost command and it and some Cardinal mistakes have really hurt him.

Barrera bats with one one and one down, batting righty.
Baker goes and steals third on a wide throw.
Barrera takes a get over fast ball by the shortstop, the single plates another run.

    Texas leads 4-0.

Cantu bats righty with one on and still one down.
He rips a grounder by the shortstop, for another hit, to put two aboard.

Beck has really lost it, but they are leaving him in.
Kody Clemens bats lefty, two on and one out.
A ground ball goes to second and the 4-6-3 finally ends the frame.

Texas scores three runs without a hit and then gets one more on three hits.

They lead 4-0 after three complete.

Johnston comes out with a very nice lead, a luxery he hasn't had this season.
He faces Brodey leading off batting from the left side.
A liner to left and Rand comes and it goes over his head on a hop to the wall.
They rule it a single and and a two base error.

Hoerner bats righty with a man on third.
He grounds to second, the 4-3 scores the run.

    Texas leads 4-1.

Diekroeger bats righty with one down.
He singles through the box, to put a man on.

Dunlap bats righty with one on and one down.
The count runs full and and a hard slider gets him swinging, for two away.

Locher bats righty with a man on first and two gone.
He puts a fast ball under the hands on the inside corner, taken for a K and that retires the side.

Stanford gets an unearned run to make it 4-1, to the bottom of the fourth.

  10. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

A new pitcher for Stanford is right hander Keith Weisenberg, after Beck lost command and Cardinal miscues also helped to do him in.

Kennedy steps in from the lefty side batting lefty, to lead off.
He swings through a pitch low and outside, for a K and one away.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with one down.
He K's swinging on three fast balls, for two away.

Brady Harlan will pinch hit for Rand, who was hit on the hand during the Texas rally.
He lines one the other way for a single, and a two out runner.
His first hit as a Longhorn.

Gurwitz up again, at the top of the order, bats righty, with one on.
He grounds to short and it's booted, for an E-6. Sloppy game in the field for the Cardinal tonight.

Boswell bats lefty with two on and two down.
A ground ball up the middle and the shortstop dives and has it, he throws to first and nips Boswell.

So a nice play after the error for the Stanford shortstop and Texas goes down, in the fourth.

After four it's Texas leading 4-1.

  11. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Johnston out for the fifth, as he goes for a win. McKenzie goes to right field and Harlan moves to left in defensive changes.

Leading off for the Cardinal is lefty hitting Winaker.
He ground behind the bag to Clemens and he takes it to the bag, for one away. This despite the plea that it was fouled off his foot, no dice.

Decker the DH bats righty, with one gone.
A ball skyed to right is two away.

Klein in the nine hole bats righty, with two down.
He has been a hard out for the Horns in this series.
A slow roller to third and Clemens has it, the low throw is picked by his brother and it's a 5-3 inning ender, as Kacy saves Kody from an E-5.

Johnston is the pitcher of record and Texas leads 4-1, halfway through this one.

  12. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Weisenberg will come back for a full inning of work maybe, as the Horn fifth begins.

Baker leads off batting righty handed.
He is hit by a slow curve ball and it's a lead runner again for Texas.

Barrera bats righty, with one on.
He squares to bunt, then pulls it back and fouls it off.
Baker goes and the pitch goes off the catchers glove again, it's a stolen base because he was going, but Stanford is shaken up it seems.
Now Barrera is hit by a pitch and that puts two on.

Cantu up batting righty, with two on.
He squares and bunts way too hard back to the mound and it's a 1-6-3 double play, for two outs.

This has been an inning of bad execution by both teams.

Kody Clemens bats lefty with a man on third and two gone.
He K's on a head high fast ball, to retire the side.

That was an inning to not make an instructional video on.

After five the Horns lead 4-1.

  13. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Johnston will try and stretch it out for another inning, in the sixth.

He faces the top of the order in Edman, the lefty hitter.
He swings at a ball in the dirt, but it get away and a high throw by Cantu allows him to reach, on the K.

Now a wild throw on the pickoff attempt is an E-1, to allow Edman to second.

Brodey bats lefty with a man on second.
A ground ball to first and the 3-1 out is recorded, as the runner goes to third.

Hoerner bats lefty with a man on and one down
A ground ball to third and Clemens charges and can't make the play, it's pretty generously scored a single, to score the run.

    Texas leads 4-2.

This game has really gotten sloppy.

Diekroeger bats lefty with one one and one down.
He walks and it's two aboard as now Johnston seems out of sorts by all the sloppy play, which includes his own error.

Dunlap bats righty, two on, one out, and one in.
He pops up to second, for a big second out.

Locher bats righty, with two outs and two on.
He K's swinging on the slider and that retires the side.

Stanford gets another unearned run and Texas now ahead 4-2, to the bottom of the sixth.

Weisenberg is still pitching for the Cardinal, in the Texas half of the inning.

Jake McKenzie bats righty handed for the first time in the game, he came on to play left field.
He pops up behind second handled by the shortstop, it's one away.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty with one down.
The count runs full and he walks for a base runner.

Harlan bats lefty with one out.
A ball in the dirt and Clemens goes and the throw is into center, it's a wild pitch, Clemens had to hold at second as he slid in.
Harlan K's swinging on a curve and it's two away.

Gurwitz bats, at the top of the order, with two gone and a man at second.
He fishes for an outside curve and that retires the side.

Six played and Texas leads 4-2

Johnson will attempt to go a final inning for the Horns, to save some arms.

Leading off the seventh for the Tree is Winaker, batting lefty.
He swings through a high fastball for the eighth K for Johnston, one down.

The DH Decker bats righty, with one out.
The count runs full on a very close pitch that sure looked like a strike.
Then he is called out on an inside fast ball, for two outs.

Klein bats righty, with two gone.
Another full count and a ground ball gets by Boswell and into left, for a single.

Edman the lead off mans without a hit in the series, bats lefty with one on and one down.
He grounds to second and the 4-6 force will end the frame.

Great outing for Johnston and he is over 100 pithes and done for the game, most likely.

Texas leads 4-2, as they stretch at the Disch.

  17. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Weisenberg keeps pitching, as he has held the Horns at bay since the sloppy fourth gave the Horns the lead.

Boswell leads off against him batting lefty.
He grounds to first, the 3U is one away.

Baker bats righty with an out on the board.
He grounds a single through the left side, for a runner for the Horns.
Bake is a threat to steal.

Barrera bats righty now as he has become the DH, with one on and one down.
He K's swinging on a pitch in the dirt, two gone.

Cantu is now catching and bats righty with two down and one on.
    Baker should go now.
He does and there is no throw on a slow curve ball, stolen base.
Cantu with a runner in scoring position, the Horns could use an add on run.
Baker goes again and beats the throw to third, another stolen base.
He goes around on yet another curve ball, the swinging K retires the side.

Baker gets in some running with two stolen bags, but is stranded there.

Texas leads 4-2, after seven played.

  18. NBHorn7

Johnston is done and the new Texas hurler is one of those freshmen in righthanded Beau Ridgeway.

His first batter will be Brodey, leading off for the Cardinal, batting lefty.
He sends a shallow fly to left and it's one down.

Hoerner bats righty, with one down.
He has two hits on the game.
He walks on four pitches for a runner.

Diekroeger bats lefty with one out and one down, as the potential tying run.
He sends one to the gap in left center and it falls, the throw comes in and the relay is just late, on the double.

    Texas leads 4-3.

Dunlap bats now with the tying run at second from the right side, with one out.
Skip comes out with a 3-1 on him, as a freshman pitcher is finally looking like one.
    He leaves him in.
He is hit by a pitch to put two on.

That's all for Ridgeway, pitching change.

  19. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The freshman closer, right hander Chase Shugart, comes in before he had hoped to, in a tight spot.

He faces a pinch hitter in righty hitting Duke Kinamon, with two on and one down.
A pinch runner for Dunlap is Alex Wilson.
He is hit by a pitch inside, but he did kind of move into it, and he reamains at bat.
A ground ball to short is hit too slowly and it's a 6-3 second out, the runners move to second and third.

Winaker bats lefty with two on and two outs.
He is walked intentionally to load the bases.

This bring up another pinch hitter for the right handed hitting Decker.
It's lefty hitter Austin Barr, the bases loaded and two outs.
    The game on the line.
A ground ball to third and it goes 5-3, to get out of the big jam.

Shugart does the job, and to the bottom of eight it's now Texas ahead 4-3.

Weisenberg remains in and he has shut down Texas.

Leading off for the Horns is Kody Clemens batting lefty, in the eighth.
He grounds to first and it's a 3U, first out.

McKenzie bats righty, with one gone.
The count runs full and a little squibber down the third base line, it's fielded by the third baseman, but Jake beats the wrap at first, for an infield single.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with one on and one away.
He pops one foul and the third baseman just has room and makes the grab by the fence, for two gone.

Harlan bats lefty and with two gone and one on.
He singles through the hole on the opposite side, to put two on.
His second hit of the game and in his career at Texas.

Coach out for Stanford and he wants a righty.

    Pitching change.

  22. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

That righty is Tyler Thorne, who comes in to face the top of the Longhorn order, Thorne is from Lubbock.

Gurwitz the leadoff hitter for the Horns, with two on and two down.
He is hitless tonight, but an outfield knock could give Texas a big insurance run.
He takes a curve ball down the heart of the plate, the K retires the side and strands more runners.

To the ninth and again the freshman closer Shugart must hold the fort, if Texas is to tie the series. Texas leads 4-3.

  23. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Shugart is out in the ninth.

He faces the nine hole hitter Klein, batting righty.
He has not been an easy out to get.
A curve ball looked really good, but called a ball to fill the count.
Shugart not detered gets him on a grounder to second 4-3, a big first out.

The top of the Cardinal order in Edman comes up batting lefty, with one down.
Edman has looked off balance the entire series, and is hitless so far in the series.
He remains that way as a liner to left is right to McKenzie, for two down.

Brodey suddenly is the last hope for Stanford, batting lefty with two outs, he is still the tying run.
He grounds to second and the 4-3 will end the game.

Texas hangs on and wins, as the freshman Shugart gets the save for Johnston, who gets the win.

It wasn't a pretty game by any means, but it's a win and it evens the series at 1-1.

Back in a minute, after the post game.

It got sloppy at the Disch. Texas got out in front on three runs without the benefit of a hit. Then get a run on three straight hits, this all happens in the fourth. That last run was the difference.

    Texas never scores again.

Johnson goes seven good innings, but Stanford hangs around on a couple of unearned runs.

Then the Cardinal scores their only earned run on a walk and a double, the only extra base hit for Stanford this series. This comes in the eighth, off the freshman Ridgeway.
Another walk puts two on and in comes Shugart.

He allows nothing but an intential walk and shuts down the Cardinal, to give Texas a victory. Texas goes to 3-2 and Stanford drops to 4-2 on the season.

It's Stanford that makes more miscues tonight and that was the difference.

So Texas evens the series and we go to tomorrow and see what that brings, probably more great pitching by both teams.

Tonight though it's a Texas win and maybe the start of a winning streak, let's hope so. :hookem2::bevo:

Hopefully, but if he can give you something in a closing role today, he might get the ball again.

No more than an inning though, only if necessary.
