Hanewich keeps going, as he has kept Texas at bay, so far.

Leading off for the Horns is Jones, batting righty.
He K's looking on an curve that catches the inside corner, one out.

McKenzie bats righty, in the nine hole, with one down.
The count runs full and he gets hit on the same place on his arm, he got hit on earlier in the game. His second HBP, puts him on.

Top of the order, Gurwitz bats righty, with one on, one gone.
After a ball delivered, the coach is out, he has a hook, as Hanewich is over a 100 pithes.

    Pitching change.

Right hander Tyler Thorne, comes in for Stanford, for his second appearannce of the series.

Gurwitz is back in with a 1-0 count against the new hurler.
A fly ball to center is the second out.

Boswell bats lefty, with one on and two gone.
He K's swinging on an outside fast ball, to retire the side.

That's seven full in the books, it's all Stanford lately, they lead 5-1.

Its early and all but it sure looks like its gonna be another year like the last several.
If the other team plays poorly and allows us a leg up we will play ok, but if they get up first its over.

New pitcher is Jon Malmin, the lefty junior, to face lefty hitter.

That hitter is Carter, with one on and one down.
A one hopper to second and has it and double clutches and throws it low, not scooped by Clemens at first.
It's an E-4, the run scores.

    Stanford leads 6-1.

Edman bats righty, at the top of the order, with one on and one out.
He walks and that puts two on.

Diekroeger bats lefty, with two on and one gone.
A liner to left center and Jones misses it on the dive and it's to the wall, the double scores two more.

    Stanford leads 8-1.

Dunlap bats righty, with a man on second, one away.
A curve ball sits him down, as he takes it for a K.

Two down for Brodey, batting lefty, one on.
A fly ball to center will retire the side.

An error and the Stanford bats add three more and they are close to evening the series, leading 8-1, bottom of eight.

Thorne stays in and pitches the eighth.

Texas leads with the righty hitting Baker.
He K's swinging on a pitch in the dirt, catcher tags him, the 2U completes the K.

Barrera bats righty, with one down.
He walks to put a man on.

Ben Kennedy pinch hits for Denny.
A wild pitch sends Barrera to second.
Kennedy lines to short and Barrera is caught off, he's doubled off, the 6U play ends the inning.

That kind of game for Texas, Stanford leads 8-1, to the ninth.

Righty Parker Joe Robinson comes in to get some more experience.

Stanford leads off with the righty hitting Hoerner.
A grounder goes through on the left side, for a lead runner.

Winaker bats lefty with one on.
He rips one through the right side, another single puts two on.

Jonny Locher bats righty with two on, his first at bat after coming in to pinch run.
He drives a ball to deep lefty, it's gone and the three run bomb makes the game even uglier.

    Stanford leads 11-1.

    Klein bats righty.
He grounds to third and the 5-3, is an out finally.

Skip out and a change is made again.

Guess yesterday pretty much used up all the Longhorn karma for weekend. This team is going to be both fun to watch and frustrating to watch all season long. No real feel for whether it is a team that can contend to make tourny or not and certainly no indication this is a team that can contend for Omaha regardless of whether they can scratch out a tourny berth, not saying things cant change but two weekends in that is what the performances thus far suggest.

Another freshman pitcher is Beau Ridgeway, coming in, a right hander.

Carter is his first batter to face, from the left side, with one away.
A fly ball to left down the left field line is caught over the wall, by Harlan, who had come in to play left.

Two down for Edman, at the top of the order.
A grounder to first and the 3U will end the inning.

Stanford with three more to blow the doors off this one, they lead 11-1.

Stanford seemed like the more experienced team, yet the series is 2-2. Horns are young. They will get better, plus we have 2 good hitters out.

The 6' 9" righty Chris Viall comes again, his second time on the hill for Stanford.

He faces Kody Clemens, batting lefty.
A liner to left is one down.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty, with one down.
He grounds one hard down behind the bag at first, the first baseman dives and has it, the 3-1 play is a nice one, for two away.

Brady Harlan gets his first at bat, batting lefty, he grounds to first and the 3-1 play end the game.

Stanford wins 11-1, returning the blowout from yesterday. The series is split 2-2.

    Discuss it in a minute.

The pitching finally faltered for the first time. That is going to happen from time to time.

Texas had opportunities to come back in the middle innings. Had chances to tie or even take the lead, but didn't, that might have changed the game.

Stanford kept adding runs and they blew the game open late.

Both teams started freshmen pitchers and they looked good and bad at times.

Both teams made errors mental and physical to cost them in losses.
It all adds up to a split of the series, which was about as expected.

It doesn't do any good to say this team will be good or bad yet, nobody knows really. The pitching will be fine, maybe the team will hit, maybe not, still to be determined.

Nobody knows if Stanford is any good or not either, Texas split the four game series last year in Palo Alto, then Stanford went on to a terrible losing season, 9-21 in the PAC 12.

The first road game comes Tuesday at Texas State, then another four game series against the Cal Bears in Austin, who are as good or better than Stanford.

Texas is treading water so far, with all these home games you hope that the record will improve before Big 12 play. The schedule is going to get harder in the near future.

The conference seems to be getting knocked around in nonconference play some, from the scores I have seen. Maybe it's a down year for the Big 12.

Baylor has really cratered after being a top team for a long time.

OU just got swept by a prior winless Sam Houston State team to drop to 3-5 on the season.

Another team picked a contender is OSU, they are 2-5 on the season.

TCU looks like the team to beat and the Horns get them in the first conference series of the year, in Austin.

It's still too early to make any real determinations about the team yet, but that will change soon as the schedule picks up steam. :hookem:

Despite the usual pre-season pronouncements about improved offense, they look like the same team of the past several years - cannot hit with RISP.
