any of you Hornfans down in the Golden Triangle as it looks like Laura is drawing a bead on Sabine Pass.........damn I live 300 miles from the coast (Shreveport) and I might get close to Hurricane force winds as the system will hauling *** when it hits the coast. Poor ole Cameron Parish LA will get inundated as most of it is 10 feet or below and they are predicting 11-13 ft storm surge there...........thats a shame as that used to be a duck/goose hunters paradise. Some of those casinos in Lake Charles may be floating for real!
Time to “hunker down” as they say although I’m not sure what that means. Watching it closely here in SE Texas / Houston area... be safe there, friend.
Even with time to get prepared you are at the mercy of mother nature Will say prayers for everyone And please if you can keep us informed
Yeah I am watching it closely also, it’s moving to far to the west for me. I am west of Galveston along the coast.
Huma, It's going into Galveston Bay and West of Anahuacl Strong winds on our side will be 15 miles out, but high winds out 150 miles. Louisiana, I got you with near hurricane force winds at 3 PM Thursday afternoon, as eye goes over Marshall & Cass County, you will be on wet side with strongest winds.
@LousianaHorn Have you thought about getting out of town while this thing blows through? Is that an option?
Katy resident here out of town in Tn now. Hoping everyone ok and if power goes out is back up before long. It's kind of amazing how many of these we just happen to be out of town for and purely by accident. Please take care everyone.
I dammm sure am paying close attention. I have a room at the San Luis Hotel if I need to evacuate the west end of Galveston.
I’ve been thru numerous ones. There is a very big difference on being on the clean side (west) vs the dirty side (East). A huge difference. if it’s an Ike your screwed either way and you better get the hell off the island or be sure and stamp your name, SS number or DL on your arm. No kidding.
Go by NOAA or some of the models on Mikes weather page and not the beoitch on tv in Houston that stands in ditches w water (When the roads are clean) giving interviews, opinions and predictions.
I may be wrong but I think Sabine Pass or west 20-30 miles or so. I sure hope it doesn’t keep ticking West.
Latest is it makes landfall on the McFadden Ranch on 87 just West of Sabine Pass. Core will extend out 15 miles out from eye. Winds extend 150 miles from eye. It is moving pretty fast for a small storm. GH, This morning they were saying the middle of Galveston Bay, but now farther east. Tidal surge 8-14 feet, which can easily cover the West End. If you are beach front, do you have your pallets of grass ready to go?
Beaumont can always use a good cleaning. I may be wrong but if it hits there SB horn we are good. I hope.. IKE was an equivalent of a category 5 regardless of being downgraded at landfall and the eye went over the Strand. Ike was a a very bad mofo that changed the way NOAA rated hurricanes Because of its massive size. Every bit as bad as Dorian that hit the Abacos last year where I go every year. none of this is good. . It sucks.
well its up to 105 mph.............pretty much zeroed it in to between Port Arthur and Cameron, LA and then basically right up the Sabine River and straight over Shreveport. GH you should be ok in Galveston.
This is setting up like Hurricane Audrey in 1957 that leveled Cameron Parish LA with 125 wind and 9-13 ft of storm surge.
They are showing 2-4 ft of storm surge from Freeport to San Luis Pass and 3-5 feet from there to Port Bolivar. Port Bolivar to Sabine Pass could see 6-9 feet and from there east is going to flood big time!
I know y'all in or near its path are doing everything you can. Not much you can do if your house is in path of storm surge. Is it still sunny and calm there?
7AM CDT update has it up to Cat 3 now at 115 mph..........it has started turning and is now clipping along NW at 15 mph located about 280 miles SE of Lake Charles, LA.
I’m watching it Louisiana Horn. Laura is going to be nasty where it hits there and I feel for y’all. a 2-4 ft surge at Freeport to SLP isn’t a big deal. You’ll often get 2ft above normal tides here anyway at the pass.
latest advisory has it up to 125mph............this ***** is for real......the "experts" are saying it will actually weaken slightly before landfall around midnight.
holy moly............1pm CDT update 140 mph...........952 MB which equates to 28.11 inches...........I have a davis weather station, it will be interesting to see what the lowest pressure it records tomorrow........if it doesnt blow away!
