This may not affect anyone but me, but if you are having this same problem, let me tell you what I did. The problem is that I am streaming ESPN via the app on my Firestick. Now, I can stream all day long stuff on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime with no problem. But on the ESPN app, I get more buffering than I do game. I looked online for a solution and I find that many users are having this problem on Firestick and Roku due to the ESPN app being a resource hog. However, I found that I could stream the game on my phone, using the ESPN app on my phone, and it works fine whether using AT&T data or my home wifi. So, I bought a Chromecast unit from Amazon for $30, and I just cast my phone to the Chromecast (the phone must be on the same wifi as the Chromecast for this to work). Now I can watch game from beginning to end with no buffering. Hope this helps someone else - the constant buffering is maddening!
