UA kicked off ASU 100yd KO return for TD ASU up 7-0 ASU Kicked off UA first play fumble recovered by ASU at UA 4 yd/line ASU first play TD ASU up 14-0 with 14:15 left in 1st Q Gonna be a long night for UA. Game is going on just down the street....very quiet here.
So Joe, you retired to sunny Arizona... you are surrounded by fans of a bitter intrastate rivalry. Perhaps you had previous alliances there. What team are you for?
Neither one really. ASU is 0-2 and UA is 0-4 and I can see why. Watching because it’s football. Not great football, but it’s watchable. End of 1Q and it’s ASU is up 21-0. Sumlin has a combined 4-12 record. He was 4-1 early last year and hasn’t won a game since.
Wow. ASU’s 2nd team drives for another TD ASU 70 - UA 0 The TD was scored by a guy from China. First year he’s played Football I think they said.
At the end of the game, the broadcast guy we’re talking about his now 12 straight losses and no improvement over last year. He’s 4-13 over all. They were discussing how the fans will react, which can’t be good. Good thing there were no fans in the stadium or there might have been a riot. UA played gawd awful! The Territorial Cup is usually a tough but good game to watch. But this was a blowout by the 2nd quarter. And UA was at home.
The question is not how Sumlin is doing, but can CDC convince Arizona to let Herman follow him in Tucson?
I remember reading UT posts about how overrated Sumlin was and thinking that was just sips being delusional. Boy was I wrong. Sumlin was absolute dogplop after Manziel left. I think the three best things he did as coach at A&M was to hire Kingsbury as OC, start Manziel over Showers, and get buy-in from the seniors. Of course, all of that happened in his first year though. Was able to turn those 3 decisions into generational wealth.
