With all of the info available on Terry here on St. Patrick's Day 2023, who would ignore his 2023 performance when considering hiring him?

Can we at least wait and see what happens against pedo state? They certainly present a coaching challenge. They shoot like Colgate, but have a lot more athleticism. Think KSU #1.

They have been peaking at the right time and they'll also have a lot of confidence from beating a team Texas lost too 3x. If Carr starts shaving points again it's going to be a long night.

I was just wondering about his reputation prior to this season and how one year with Beard's players could change all that. It's just an interesting analysis to me.

Kind of like Joe Flacco. One great year, one great contract, no more great years after that.

Anyone who follows college football, which is filled with hindsight hirings and overpaying of one season wonders that FAILED. We've had more than our share.

I am not against Terry. He seems to be doing a quality job with superior talent. Best thing he has going for him is who else is out there? Beat State Penn, and I'll support a short term, low salary contract, with huge incentives

Excellent point and at least a sane perspective. Just puzzles me how many people are so ready to jump back into the strong/herman/shaka etc world hoping to hit a home run with the current shooting star. Texas should not be the "experimentation" school.

there is the potential to be more than one proven, high quality coach out there. someone mentioning Billy Donavan is not a shooting star.

    Uh whaaa…?
But they aren’t the same teams. Every one of the starters have a year under their belt in Beard’s system. Experience cannot be overstated.
Plus, Disu is now playing fully healthy for the first time. And, SirJabari Rice, not on last year’s team, a sixth year player, may be our most valuable player.
Terry is doing a decent job. I think he’s getting his sea legs—HIS confidence is growing. I’m not convinced he’s the guy. But I’m not convinced he isn’t.

Found it interesting watching Kstate last night. They were obviously giving the highlights of each team and noted that the kstate coach won coach of the year for the conf. Interesting that rt got national coach of the year but didnt even win it in the big 12 conf. I have listened to several games and the national media is pushing hard for rt to be the coach at Texas.

You are right. Coach Terry is the feel good story of the tourney.
Not a bad thing at all.

I don’t think even John Wooden could install a high functioning system in half a season. It’s clearly Beard’s. Defense Beard’s. Offense moving without the ball, Beard. Offense, taking the extra pass, Beard.
And none of the above conflicts with what Terry would want. next year look for tweaks; Terry will make this his team.

With the win tonight I think it is just about a given that Terry is the HC next year and frankly he has earned it these past five games in KC and Des Moines and can really put a stamp on it next week back in KC. But count me with the multiple posters who want a short term, incentive laden contract that makes him prove he isn't a one hit wonder with Beard's kids and Beard's set up for this year. I think he can build on this and be successful but he isn't the hire anyone would have made if this was an open job and you considered his resume pre-interim HC so he shouldn't be in line for a long term guaranteed money deal that Texas may regret in 12-24 months.

I can agree with this even though my threshold coming in was elite 8. I like your terms. If Texas does come with a short incentive laden contract expect media heads to roll and yell racism.

There will be a couple of schools that will offer him less money, but the standard for high-profile HCs is 5 years. Are you ready for Texas to have to money whip him instead of a reasonable annual amount with incentives for 5 years?

Are you saying have to money whip him in 2 or 3 years if we are conservative now?

If he is successful enough the next two to three years on an incentive deal that he needs to be money whipped with a guaranteed deal at that point to keep him then that’s great because it means he proved himself over time. Money whipping coaches has never been an issue for Texas, it’s money whipping the right coaches that has been issue.

As Texas has learned over the past decade, any HC hire is a crap shoot. No one wants spin and repeat, but how Terry is handled can very easily blow up in Texas' face.

I am saying it will be a PR disaster if Texas does not offer him a reasonable/expected 5-year deal. A coach who kept the team from cratering after Beard and now has them in the Sweet 16 will get some schools' attention, and they will not have issues with a big contract for 5 years. So Texas says "you have to prove yourself" but no thanks on a longer-term deal. I am not sure Cdc (or DeLoss for that matter) wants/would want to handle that PR hot potato, and what successful coach would want to step into that type of situation?

We are Texas doesn't hold the allure anymore.

Agree the national media really wants him to get the job. Hes done very well with Beards team. We all know however that had Terry been hired instead of Beard, this would be a very different team. Unfortunately I think in the current world of DEI the university will be forced to hire him for optics alone.

If Terry can recruit elite talent then maybe he will succeed. That will be the question. This will be a different team next year.

Sorry, two years loaded with performance incentives. If the media doesn't like it, CDC can send em to me. First question: "How much money has the media complainer donated to The Longhorn Foundation?" Second question: "What is your relationship with The University of Texas?" Third question: "Why should any Longhorn give a flying f**k what you think? You're just some other fishwrap ******* trying to stir up trouble."

"My suggestion is you get out of The Great Republic and stay out. I would advise you to leave through Dallas because I'm not sure you want to get any closer to Anahuac than you are right now."

I’m not so sure a short term contract sends a very good message. Why should recruits have any faith in RT if the school doesn’t? Certainly could move the needle for a recruit on the fence but it also seems like you’re setting Terry up for failure by tying his hands recruitment-wise. Does anyone have much faith that a Head Coach will still be around if his contract has not been extended when there’s a year or two left? No they don’t

I’m thinking RT has the job now. Perhaps the likelihood of more $ and longer term goes up with each win.

Terry has never had the opportunity to recruit to a Tier I Univ. (academically and/or athletically). I believe he has the undying support of THIS team. I think he gets the job with a good but not a $5+ MM deal. If he gets the job I support him to the end of time {IF he is successful & reps The University well (i.e. doesn't choke a ***** regardless of whether or not said ***** is deserving of said choking...if not, well, we buy him out & move on)}.
