#14/15 Texas (18-5; 8-3) visit NR/NR Kansas (12-9; 2-8) on Feb. 09, 2019. This will be their second meeting this season. Horns won the first one in Austin 62-45. Horns are coming off a close loss to Baylor Monday, dropping a 68-74 loss in Austin. Kansas and KSU split the Sunflower Showdown with KSU taking Kansas 72-62 in Lawrence on Wednesday in OT. The Jayhawks are 1-4 at home while Texas is 4-1 on the road. Texas holds a 27-10 edge in the overall series and a 21-9 edge in Big 12 games. Texas currently has a 13 game winning streak, the longest in the series. The first win in the streak was a win on Feb. 20, 2013. The Jayhawks’ last wins in the series were three consecutive games from Jan. 04, 2012 through Jan. 23, 2013. Kansas Jayhawks (12-9; 2-8) After missing three games with an injury starting with the first Texas game, Jessica Washington played 11 minutes against WVU but did not play in the next game versus KSU. It’s not clear if she will be able to play against Texas or how effective she will be if she plays. The Jayhawks bring four players averaging double digits to Saturday’s game against the Horns. Christalah Lyons (#0, 5-5 Sr. G) comes in at 14.2 ppg. Jessica Washington (#3, 5-8 RS Sr. G) adds 11.8 ppg. If she is not able to play, KU loses a major scorer and 3pt threat. Kylee Kopatich (#33, 5-10 Sr. G) checks in with an average of 11.5 ppg. Austin Richardson (#14, 6-0 Sr. F) is scoring at an 11.1 ppg clip. Lyons is the only player to have reached triple digits in FG attempts (47-126; 37.3%) with Kopatich (35-99; 35.4%) and Richardson (41-96; 42.7%) set to join her during the Texas game. Bailey Helgren (#35, 6-5 Soph. C) at 63.6% (14-22) and Chelsea Lott (#1, 6-3 Sr. C) at 44.4% (8-18) join Richardson as the only players to hit over 40% of their shots among players that have taken at least ten shots. Kopatich (22-64, 34.4%, 6.4 3s per game), Washington (13-30, 43.3%, 5.0 3s per game), Richardson (12-36, 33.3%, 3.6 3s per game), Lyons (9-27, 33.3%, 2.7 3s per game) and Mariane De Carvalho (#4, 6-2 Jr. F; 8-28, 28.6%, 4.7 3s per game) are the primary 3p threats for the Jayhawks. This Kansas team launches 37% of their shots from BTA. Kansas has seven players making over 70% from the FT line, including four hitting over 80 percent. Lyons has the most FTs made (39) and attempted (48). She is making 81.3% of her FTs. Kopatich second in FTs made (23), attempts (27) and percentage (85.2%). Richardson is third in FTs made (17) and attempts (23) while hitting 73.9% from the FT line. Kansas is ninth in rebounding at 33.6 rpg. Helgren is their leading rebounder at 5.8 rpg while Richardson backs her up with 4.7 rpg. Kopatich is third with 3.9 rpg. Lyons (37 assists, 3.7 apg) is the leading distributor. Washington (15 assists, 2.5 apg), Richardson (17 assists, 1.7 apg) and Kopatich (14 assists, 1.4 apg) help to set up their teammates as well. Lyons (2.4 TOPG), Kopatich (2.2 TOPG) and Helgren (1.8 TOPG) have the most trouble with turnovers. Richardson with seven blocks is Kansas’ top shot blocker with Helgren second with four. Kopatich (2.5 spg) and Lyons (1.6 spg) are the top two in steals with Brianna Osorio (#2, 5-8 Sr. G) is third with nine steals. Kansas has used fourteen players in Big 12 games. Lyons, Kopatich, Richardson and Helgren have started all ten league games. Washington started the first five with them before her injury. Since, De Carvalho (1 start), Osorio (3 starts) and Aniya Thomas (#5, 5-7 Fr. G, 1 start) have shared that spot with Osorio getting the start in the last game versus KSU. Kopatich is the only Jayhawk with over 30 mpg at 35.7 mpg. She leads a group of nine that is averaging double digit minutes. Lyons (29.6 mpg), Washington (28.2 mpg), Richardson (27.6 mpg) and Helgren (24.7 mpg) are in the next group. De Carvalho (19.7 mpg), Lott (11.0 mpg), Osorio (16.4 mpg) and Thomas (10.8 mpg) complete the group of nine. Three players who see limited time saw action against the Horns in the first game: Michaela Wilson (#12, 6-2 Soph. F), Brittany Franklin (#31, 6-5 RS Fr. C) and Sara Boric (#50, 6-5 Sr. C). Texas Longhorns (18-5; 8-3) Horns bring four players averaging in double digits into the Kansas game: Sug (15.2 ppg), Joyner (11.7 ppg), Danni (11.6 ppg) and Jatarie (10.3 ppg). Sug (61-120, 50.8%) and Joyner (53-123, 43.1%) are the first to have reached triple digits in FG attempts. Danni (42-99, 42.4%) and Jatarie (47-93, 50.5%) should reach that mark during the Kansas game. Those four have combined for just over two-third of Texas’ FG attempts. Sug and Jatarie have the best FG% on the team. Five others are shooting over 40%, ranging from 41.2% (Olamide) to 47.4% (Audrey). Danni’s 45.6% in 3pters ranks third in the league. Her 2.4 3s per game is tied for second in the league. Sug is also hitting over 40% from BTA. She has made 10 of 24 for 41.7%. Two other Horns have reached double digits in 3pters attempted: Destiny (11-33; 33.3%) and Joyner (4-16; 25%). Sug’s 79.5% (35-44) ranks 12th in the Big 12. She is the only Horn ranking among the top 15 FT shooters by percentage. Jatarie (18-26; 82.6%), Destiny (20-25; 80%) and Charli (12-15; 80%) have higher FT%s but are not ranked to not having enough FTs per game. Olamide is perfect from the FT line at 9 of 9 (100%). Joyner (19-40; 47.5%) and Jada (6-13; 46.2%) are struggling from the FT line. Both Audrey and Joanne are each 2-4 (50%) from the FT line. Joyner (7.2 rpg-10th in the league), Jatarie (5.6 rpg-17th in the league), Sug (5.4 rpg-20th in the league) and Danni (4.2 rpg) are our top four rebounders. Destiny (3.3 rpg), Charli (3.3 rpg) and Olamide (3.1 rpg) provide strong rebounding support coming off the bench. Sug is the top player in assists with 56. Her average of 5.3 apg ranks fourth in the Big 12. Danni (22 assists), Joyner (15 assists) and Destiny (11 assists) are the other top playmakers on the team. Sug and Joyner are tied with each having committed 41 TOs (3.7 TOPG). Four others have reached double figures in TOs, ranging from Jatarie’s 24 to Danni’s eleven. Charli continues to be the shot blocker with seven. Jatarie has five blocks and Joyner had swatted away four shots. Joyner has tallied 16 steals with Sug and Jada each contributing 13 steals apiece. Danni has swiped ten steals. The group of Sug, Joyner, Danni, Jatarie and Jada have started the last six games. This lineup is 4-2 in conference play with losses to WVU and Baylor by six points in each loss. In most games, all available players will play. Audrey is likely to be cleared from concussion protocol so that group will go back to ten players. Danni (36.4 mpg) and Sug (34.6 mpg) put in the most minutes of the ten. In the 20s are Joyner, Jatarie, Jada and Destiny. Olamide, Charli and Audrey are averaging in the teens. LINEUPS Projected lineups are based on the previous game’s starting lineups. Kansas post player De Carvalho was effective off the bench with 11 pts on 4-9 shooting, including 3-6 from BTA. Richardson, the starting F, had 10 pts but was only 3-16 from the field. Joyner (15 pts) and Jatarie (10 pts) matched the scoring but were much more effective, going 10-15 from the field. Those two along with Charli and Olamida combined for 16 rebounds and two blocks. KU’s posts had 11 rebounds and zero blocks. If Joyner can stay out of foul trouble, KU has no one that can handle her defensively. She did her damage in only 18 minutes due to foul trouble. Both teams rely heavily on their guards. KU is more dependent on threes as 30 of their 66 shots in the previous game came from BTA. Sug was able to get into the lane and get to the FT line. Without Washington, Kansas relies heavily on Kipatich and Lyons. Horns were able to do outstanding defending those two. If Washington can play, she will ease the pressure on those two and stretch the defense allowing easier shots for the Jayhawks. Neither team should lack of depth as Kansas used 12 players against the Horns in their previous meeting and Texas has at least nine available. Both Washington for KU and Audrey for Texas are possibilities to play in this game. STATS COMPARISON—Big 12 stats only. Texas is simply a better shooting and rebounding team than Kansas. Both teams like to run but Texas is more effective. I do expect Kansas to put more threes than usual. This game will pit the #7 3pt defense (Texas) versus the #7 3pt shooting team (Kansas) against each other. On the flip side, Texas is second in the league in 3pt % while Kansas is #4 in 3pt defense. Should be an interesting game. The inside game of the Horns will be pivotal as will the 3pt defense. Kansas has had trouble with stopping the inside game of opponents as well as scoring inside aside from De Cavalho, who has been effective coming off the bench. Getting the inside game going should open up the three for Sug, Danni and Destiny. Game time is Saturday, Feb. 09 at 7 PM. No TV for this game but it will be online on JTV/ESPN+. Radio 105.3 FM will carry the broadcast.
If Kansas doesn't hurry up and win one more game they are liable to have to share the bottom with Tech or OU. And to think a a few months ago one of the polls had them picked as the 4th best team in the conference. Charlie Creme did too.
Longhorns look to get back to winning ways in Lawrence - The Daily Texan No killer instinct, I believe she is talking about.
The reference to injuries is getting a little old... it's beginning to look like a ready-made excuse IMO.

Ah, there's JoeDallas... the quintessential fence rider. Some of us are experienced enough as athletes and coaches to recognize it when we see it.... and are brave enough to call it out.
It could be better but it certainly could be worse. I will listen to the women on the radio, follow along on the stats page and watch the men play WVU.
Looks like Audrey has been fit with a face mask to protect her nose. I’d guess she gets a few minutes.
42-26 Horns at the half. KU played much better or Texas let up. 19-15 Texas in the second quarter. KU started the comeback when one starter was on the floor with four reserves for the Horns about half way through the second half. Excellent start, just got to go for the kill in the second half.
KU with 18 pts and Texas with 15 pts in the 3rd quarter. 58-44 Texas. All five starters with at least two fouls with Jatarie sitting with three.
Finally! We play like the team we're capable of being. KA mixes in a little variety and the rotations are much more sensible.... behold the result! Good job coach and good job players. Great TEAM effort!
Horns win it 91-73. KU won the fourth quarter, 24-22. That's okay. Five players in double figures, led by Joyner's 22 pts and including Olamide (10 pts) and Charli (14 pts). All four posts combined for 21 rebs with Olamide with three and the other three with six each. Our starting backcourt had four rebounds each. Charli was 10 of 10 from the FT line. Danni was 3 of five from BTA.
Box Score: SIDEARMLiveStats Horns took 14 seconds to score; KU 16 seconds. Horns had 74 possessions, KU 75.
Well, Coach K has been saying that we would see the best of this team starting around the middle of February. Another big win Tuesday would go a long ways towards showing that the team has learned to not let up once they have a team down.
We played much better at OU and at KU than we did against them at home. We need that trend to continue at OSU on Tuesday night. Gotta contain Vivian Gray.
I didn't even get to listen, but sounds like we had an excellent game. Charli's free throw shooting is worth a lot. If KA is ever in doubt about which post to put in, I hope she keeps Charli's free throws in mind. Danni is really getting in sync now. Wish she had another year. Wish I could have seen what kind of shots Joyner was making.
