Horns win 8-7 after man on 2B and one out for arky. Duplantier allows 2 runs in 9th due to missing on curveballs. Settles down to strike out last 2 batters.
Saturday game summary: Baseball holds off No. 6 Arkansas for 8-7 win - University of Texas Athletics Big early season win over a top ten team. Freshman pitchers got into some tough situations and that experience cant help but pay dividends later this year and into future. Chance to come out of this tourny with winning weekend today against Mizzou.
Losing to #11 and beating #6 normally would be a good thing, but the pig people were obviously the early season beneficiary of the $EC bump in the ratings. They will not be #6 tomorrow, and if they lose to Baylor (to go 0 for 3 over the weekend) they might be buried at the bottom of the top 25 (if not ranked) for several weeks.
Extended highlights from Arkie game: Big XII is 4-2 against the SEC thus far with three more games today.
Horns score a run on a bases loaded Zuniga HBP. New Mizzu pitcher is Shane Wilhelm. Texas trails 3-2 with no outs and bases loaded. Moar
Looks like the Koubichek kid can pitch... but for Pete sakes— whose calling the pitches? 3 straight 1st pitch fastballs = 3 1st pitch singles What?
Wow. The catcher returns the ball back to the pitcher via 2 hops. With runners on 2nd and 3rd. Walk in a run after 0-2 count. don’t know what to say......
I feel like I am watching two teams who have a lot of players who got very drunk last night and are playing extremely hungover today. Bad baseball all around!
Sunday game summary: Baseball loses wild game, 9-8, to Missouri - University of Texas Athletics The Horns go 1-2 on weekend. They had chance to go 3-0 and for a young team this is a good learning experience even with some difficult to swallow losses. Arizona tomorrow and CSF next weekend at home will also be tests and if they can win the mid week and take 2 of 3 from CSF its still a 4-3 record over a tough seven game stretch.
I guess it can be expected with a young team but its hard to win when you commit 5 errors and give up 4 unearned.
Sad to say but I agree with Coach Pierce, we gave that game away. The throw to 2nd in the 9th was especially dumb. Seems like we did the same thing last year, with the same results, that kind of started our skid of error-filled games.
With Baylor beating Arkie, the Big XII went 6-3 overall which will help the strength of conference when the tourny invites are being discussed.
