#6/#6 Texas will take on NR/NR Iowa State this Saturday in Austin. Texas (15-4; 6-2) is coming off a disappointing loss to Baylor on Thursday while ISU 9-11; 3-6) picked up an upset win of Oklahoma State on Wednesday. The two will meet for the first time this season. ISU holds an 18-14 edge in the series. ISU took a 70-66 win in Austin on 02/24/17 to break a three game Texas winning streak in the series.

    IOWA STATE CYCLONES
The Cyclones are led by do everything Bridget Carleton (#21, 6-1 Jr. G). In 8conference games, she leads ISU in 18 of 23 categories: total minutes and mpg, FGs made & attempted, 3pters made & attempted, FTs made & attempted, total points & ppg, defensive rebs, total rebs & rpg, steals, blocks, TOs, and is tied for the lead in total assists & apg.

Carleton averages 20.2 ppg and is the only Cyclone in double figures. Emily Durr (#3, 6-0 Sr. G) is second in scoring at 9.0 ppg. Carleton has taken twice as many shots as Durr who is second in FGs attempted: 163 to 84. She has made just over twice as many FGs (62) as Madison Wise (#1, 6-1 Fr. F) who with 26 ranks second on the team in that catergory. Meredith Burkhall (#32, 6-3 Jr. F) tops the squad in FG% at 45.0% from the field. Carleton has made and taken the most threes (18-59; 30.5%) while Wise has the top 3pt % at 35.5%. Wise and Adriana Camber (#13, 5-10 Soph.F) are second on the team with 11 made threes. Rai Johnson (#4, 5-7 Fr. G) at 87.5% on 7-8 Fts and Bride Kennedy-Hopoate (#12, 6-4 Jr. F) at 80.0% on 12-15 FTs top the Cyclones in FT%. Carleton is the leader in FTs made and attempted with 40 of 54 (74.1%). Durr is second at 27 of 34 (79.4%).

Carleton is the top rebounder at 7.3 rpg. Kristin Scott (#25, 6-3 Fr. C) is second with 5.5 rpg. Camber and Wise add 4.3 and 4.1 rpg, respectively. Carleton and Durr are tied with 2.7 apg. Second is Wise with an average of 1.0 apg. Carleton averages 2.9 spg. Durr is second at 1.0 spg. No one on the ISU team averages more than Carleton’s 0.7 bpg.

Of ten players that have seen action in Big 12 games to date, eight have starts in the nine games. The starting lineup for the last game were Carleton (9 starts), Wise (9 starts), Durr (7 starts), Rae Johnson (2 starts) and Burkhall (5 starts). ISU has four players that play extensive minutes beginning with Carleton’s 37.0 mpg. Wise (29.2 mpg), Durr (28.4 mpg) and Camber (28.0 mpg) are the other three. Averaging double digit minutes off the bench are Kennedy-Hopoate (18.1 mpg), Scott (18.5 mpg) and Johnson (18.6 mpg). Claire Ricketts (#30, 6-3 RS Jr. F) and Nia Washington (#10, 5-7 Soph. G) have seen limited action in league games.

    TEXAS LONGHORNS
The Horns’ starting three starting guards lead the team in scoring. LaShann averages 19.4 ppg. Ariel adds 15.3 ppg. Brooke contributes 12.9 ppg. LaShann has hit 63.7% of her FGs while Ariel has made 50.5%. Jordan is at 52.6% while Audrey-Ann is at 50.0% from the field. Texas has four players that have at least 10 3pters attempted. Brooke leads at 8 of 36 (22.2%). Ariel is next at 8 of 27 (29.6%). LaShann has the best % of the quartet at 36.4% on 8 of 22 treys. Alecia has attempted 16 threes and made three for 18.8%. Four of the top five players to get to the FT line are making over 73% of their FTs. The four are LaShann (31-42; 73.8%), Ariel (22-23; 95.7%), Brooke (19-21; 90.5%) and Alecia (9-12; 75.0%).

Ariel is the top rebounder at 7.5 rpg with a primary supporting cast of four: Jatarie (5.9 rpg), Brooke (5.8 rpg), Joyner (4.5 rpg) and Audrey-Ann (4.1 rpg). Brooke continues as the assist leader with 5.3 apg. Her teammates in the starting backcourt add 3.1 apg (Ariel) and 2.0 apg (LaShann). Audrey-Ann has 14 blocks (1.8 bpg) to lead the team. Ariel averages 1.0 bpg with no other player adding more than 0.3 bpg. Ariel (3.0 spg) and LaShann (2.4 spg) are the leaders in this category.

Thirteen players have seen action in Big 12 games. Seven have played in all eight games. Four players have started all eight games with Audrey-Ann starting all seven she has been available for. Alecia has one start. Brooke (33.2 mpg) and Ariel (30.8 mpg) top the team in mpg. Seven others average in double digit minutes ranging from 26.9 to 10.1.

    LINEUPS
Projected starting lineups are based on the last game played.

ISU is going to rely heavily on Carleton. She scored a career high 39 of ISU’s 69 points in the win over OSU. Durr stepped up as well with 16 pts. Either LaShann or Ariel will initially cover Carleton and look to deny her the ball.

If Audrey-Ann, Jatarie and Joyner can control the boards and get the Horns a chance to run, ISU will have trouble covering the fast break. Texas should control the boards as well as be able to score inside.

    STATS COMPARISON
Team stats are for Big 12 games only.

This is a game that Texas should be able to get minutes for their two frosh guards in. They will need to shake off the Baylor loss and regroup quickly or ISU will bomb away from the BTA. 43% of their shots come from behind the arc and, while Carleton is the main shooter, others are quite capable as OSU found. Texas will need to guard the 3pt line, especially when Carleton has the ball. The problem there is her ability to drive and either finish or find an open teammate.

Texas will want to run and ISU will look to slow the pace down. The Cyclones are comfortable running their half court offense. Getting into the passing lanes will be necessary for Texas to disrupt the Cyclones. ISU is excellent at grabbing defensive rebounds but not so good at grabbing misses. That should allow Texas to get out running. The Horns will need to be aware of ISU running as they do push downcourt when the opportunity arises.

The game will be this Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 PM. The game will be carried on the LHN and on 105.3 FM in the Austin area. It will also be available online on WatchESPN.

I predict UT comes out pissed off and builds a double-digit lead. Then, they'll take their foot off the pedal and then realize that the game isn't over and then go back to the starters and finish with a......10-12 point victory.

The hesitancy in shooting from McCarty is really coming at a bad time in the season.

Nice win for the Horns, especially good to see Joyner looking much more like she did her frosh year. Good to see Joyner and Rellah standing together during the Eyes of Texas at the end of the game.

After 7 turnovers in the 1st half, only 2 in the 2nd.

It seems like good things often happen when Jada and Joyner pair up on plays.

I didn't see the game yet, just checked the espn score board. We win a blowout and I don't see Patterson's name in the box score? Why didn't she play?

She and Rellah never took off warmups. I was hoping Destiny would get in after finally getting cleared.

Possibly still sick? She didn't travel to Baylor due to the flu.

Nice win ladies. Highest margin of victory against ISU in program history and Holmes gets a double double.

Best thing about this win - keeps a certain poster silent as do all our wins. :yippee:

I came in at the tail end of Tina's Q/A session. She said that Chaz just got back from home (Houston). She went home to be taken care of by her folks and surprised the team by showing up today(?). Anyway, no way was she in basketball shape after fighting the flu.

I hope you're right, because that would mean we're winning in a blowout
