UT 4 KSU 1 after 5 innings. Bench clearing brawl (really more of a bench clearing 'heated incident') in the 2nd inning led to 3 ejections on each side. Wicks has given up 4 runs through 5 innings, and has thrown 88 pitches already. We've been working the count very well. They'd better hope their bullpen is solid... Our fielding has done Madden some favors with 2 double plays. Madden hasn't had great control with his breaking ball tonight.
More on the "fight" Watch: Play at the plate leads to multiple ejections for Texas, Kansas State Bad news is that the ejected players can't play in tomorrow's game either...
So Madden goes out. In comes Witt out of our bullpen. Witt puts a bunch of men on base, gets pulled in favor of Cole Quintanilla, and Cole walks in a batter. Cole's got to clean this up. Sac fly for another KSU run. And Cole strikes out the 3rd out! Whew. We're lucky to escape the 7th inning with the lead. Witt should get the earned runs on the books--it wasn't his night. UT 5 KSU 4
Great rally. We topped off the walked in run with a 2 run double. 9-6 good guys, still with just 1 out!!! 15 hits thus far. Our bats have come alive tonight! Our guys have been making this overworked reliever make his pitches and haven't been chasing too many junk balls outside the strike zone.
We're lighting the scoreboard up tonight! Bats are red hot. This isn't looking like an early 1980s Astros game in the Astrodome. This is looking more like a 2010-2011 Rangers game. I expected something of a pitchers duel tonight. We got the opposite, but I'm quite happy with the win (let's close this one out Nixon).
Nixon's not super tricky*, but he can throw some heat, and has a fair breaking ball. Strike out by Nixon to close it. 94 mph fast ball. *
It will be nice to take this first game vs. their Ace... but with the ejections it may be a little more iffy Sat?
Yeah. Although interestingly, our guys that came off the bench hit rather well tonight. Maybe it helped to mix it up a bit in the lineup.
