4 game series starts tomorrow. Stanford is ranked 7th in latest poll while Texas checks in at 23. Here is preview from Stanford athletics. http://gostanford.com/news/2018/3/6/baseball-messin-with-texas.aspx Need to get at least a split and winning this series would be huge.
Really need to win 4 out of 6. Kansas in Austin follows Arkansas (and we know what kind of train wreck that the last two games against the birds was last season).
Horns bats stay alive and they take opener 8-6, summaries from Texasssports and Burnt Orange Nation: http://texassports.com/news/2018/3/8/no-23-baseball-outlasts-no-7-stanford-8-6-in-series-opener.aspx https://www.burntorangenation.com/2...aseball-stanford-cardinal-recap-nico-odonnell
Last night’s game was fantastic to watch. Both teams were fighting like it was more than a regular season game. I am looking forward to the rest of the series!
Horns drop game two 7-1, Kingham has struggled mightily since the opener. Game three is this afternoon. https://www.burntorangenation.com/2...tanford-cardinal-game-two-recap-nolan-kingham
We had a lot go wrong last night. The hitting streak for Clemens ended. David Hamilton had poor base running. Hibbler kept striking out. I hope like the Friday game with Northwestern last week, our team got all their mistakes out of their system last night.
Rough Saturday afternoon as Horns lose 9-3. They will look to get split tomorrow. http://texassports.com/news/2018/3/...23-baseball-to-9-3-loss-to-no-7-stanford.aspx
It was over after the top of the second. We are learning that Texas has a real problem with good lefthand pitching. Haven't figured out the fielding errors. Texas pitching a notch below good and cannot overcome the errors.
That and the bats went silent after game 1 - 5 runs in the last 3 games. Plus the plate ump was making the pitchers groove it down the middle on Sat. to get a strike. They could get away with it as their starter was hitting 97mph but we were not throwing that hard and they tagged it.
Series review as Horns drop last three. https://www.burntorangenation.com/2...dinal-brendan-beck-perfect-game-chase-shugart Two game midweek series with Pigs coming up.
Very disappointing in the way the losses came about. Pitching let down; hitting letdown; and most disturbing the fielding brain farts.
The 9-3 Saturday game to me was on the umpire. He allowed 2 big innings by not calling consistent strikes. The team probably should have had a split in this series if they had a decent umpire. I would ban this joker from our games.
He was consistent in one way - he consistently gave them a higher strike zone than he allowed us. I left that part off of my post cuz I didn't want to sound like a total homer.
A split is much better than 1 out of 4 which is what we should have had. On Saturday even after an error we were only down 1-0. We had them out twice which would have taken 7-8 runs off the board, but the ump decided what he just called a strike to be a ball both times when it really counted. I didn't watch the other 2 games we lost so we may have been spanked there.
