Horns open the 2019 baseball season this weekend with a tough road series in Lafayette, Louisiana against the Ragin Cajuns. No. 24 Baseball preview: at Louisiana (Feb. 15-17) - University of Texas Athletics Texas has a strong out of conference schedule this year that will test this team. Really important to get at least 2 out of these three to get season off right.

Mason Bryant's bio not too impressive: 2nd team all-district as outfielder. Has good power pitcher body and has touched 96 mph. Got the job done last night and excited to see more.
Saturday game: Texas jumps out to 5-0 lead early but give up 4 in bottom of second and lead 5-4 through 2 1/2.
Ryan Reynolds with lead off HR in top of seventh then the Horns leave bases loaded for a second time and cant get any more across, Horns lead is now 6-4 at seventh inning stretch.
Horns strand two more in the top of the 8th which makes 14 men left on base this game, not a good stat. Horns still lead though 6-4 headed to bottom of the 8th.
Horns strand their 15th runner of game in top of 9th, headed to bottom of 9th with Texas still holding a 6-4 lead.
Bottom of the ninth, Nico O'Donnell is on mound for his third inning of work having come on with two outs in the seventh. First batter up grounds out to short, 1 down.
Wow. When you strand that many runners it usually bites you on the *** really hard. We were fortunate.
ULaLa is to good of a team to pull the lean into the pitch to get on base via hit by pitch game. That happened several times in both games.

Were you saying that ULaLa tried that several times, or that the Horns tried that and ULaLa avoided it?
ULaLa tried it and because of the rule change(?) or maybe umpire emphasis, they were charged at least twice with a dead ball strike after being hit by a pitch. The call, of course, was that they failed to attempt avoiding the HBP.
Good catch, Sangre. Looks like a rule change and one I like; from the NCAA Baseball rulebook: Major Rules Changes for 2019 and 2020 7-4-i Strike awarded for intentional movement to be hit by a pitch .. 66 7.4.i [A strike is] Awarded if the batter is judged to intentionally make a movement to be hit by a pitch, regardless of where the pitch is located; or allows himself to be intentionally hit by a pitch that is not thrown within the boundaries of the batter's box unless it was not possible to avoid being hit. For completeness: it has always been that a pitch in the strike zone is a strike, even if it touches the batter, in which case it is a dead ball as well. NCAA rule book 7.4.e
