Texas WBB 2024-2025 Season

I read a lot of talk from sources about this award, and not one of them mentioned Vic, which I thought was crazy. For his efforts on bringing a new team to the SEC and winning it all, there was no other choice. Way to go coach!!!
Not to mention doing it for the last 11 games without starter Amo, to include wins over SC, UK, and LSU, and losing potential starter (or at very least big time player off the bench) in Phelia.

LSU has three on the first team? If they were actually that good, wouldn't LSU have been more competitive, instead of getting spanked by three different SEC programs? Maybe the coach over in Baton Rouge is overrated.

First Team
Sarah Ashlee Barker - Alabama
Georgia Amoore - Kentucky
Flau'Jae Johnson - LSU
Aneesah Morrow - LSU
Mikaylah Williams - LSU
Raegan Beers - Oklahoma
Joyce Edwards - South Carolina
Madison Booker - Texas
Mikayla Blakes - Vanderbilt

SC has one one First Team. And yet our two teams are co-champs that both beat their 3 First Team'ers.

Hmmmm.

And.... these folks are better for their team than Rori?
Second Team

DeYona Gaston - Auburn
Clara Strack - Kentucky
Madison Scott - Ole Miss
Jerkaila Jordan - Mississippi State
Payton Verhulst – Oklahoma
MiLaysia Fulwiley - South Carolina
Te-Hina Paopao - South Carolina
Talaysia Cooper - Tennessee

Booker, Lee, Harmon, and Schaefer receive SEC honors.

Three players from the third place team and one player each from the top two teams. Sure. That makes sense. Not.

If you lazily only measure a player’s performance by points scored, you get about 10% of the entire picture and you erroneously elevate players from teams that don’t have a well-rounded squad and penalize players from teams that do.

Jones not being on first team is pathetic. Her not being on at least the second team is total BS.

Can make the case for Rori not being on first team, but not on second team is a head scratcher. She runs the number one team in the nation.

This is why a league with so many teams and great players needs a third team, or at least honorable mention recognition. Trying to pick only 10 players out of 16 teams is bound to leave out some otherwise worthy honorees.

Well I guess i'll chime in too...
Why wasn't Shay on the All-Defensive team:e-thinking:? Our team is too good to not have better representation.

Wrong audience! But for clarity for this always interested audience, I noticed a $16,000 deposit into our Chase checking account today. From US Treasury. Bank says it’s there. I have no idea. I’m thinking the government deposited someone else’s money into our account. This was supposed to be for my wife……and I was joking about the hold on our account. Ive got to figure out where it came from. I’ve got too many things open at the same time. Sorry about using bytes on this board.
Ok it sounds like some “found” money. Made me a little nervous seeing a hold on your account and Treasury Dept mentioned together. Hope you figure it out

Really enjoyable interview with Vic and Rori on my personal favorite WBB podcast from The Athletic. If you like a good podcast, this episode is worth the hour or so listen. :hookem:

Totally agree about this podcast. I really enjoy the interviews and the analysis, and it's gotten me more engaged in the WNBA which has been good as well.

Texas' last, two games in the tourney sure dropped them in the polls. I'm surprised TCU isn't ahead of them. In any regard, perhaps Texas will start playing some good offense again without the burden of being No. 1.

The rankings are such bullsh*t... I know I'm going to get a lot of flack, but I never did think that we were the best team in the nation day in and day out. I thought we were one of the best teams who, obviously on a given day, could play with anybody. We backed into that #1 spot having beaten Vandy, SC, UK, and LSU then remaining undefeated while other teams ranked #1 lost to opponents ranked below them. Per the status quo, our number one ranking was earned fair and square.

The real bullsh*t part to me, however, is that we lost to South Carolina convincingly (due to one bad quarter) and we drop all the way to number five. I hope this lights a fire in the bellies of our players and our staff as well. Should they seed according to these rankings (who knows what they'll do) it may just work out in our favor having USC as the fourth #1 seed and us as the first #2 seed. The part that sucks about that though... we would have to go out to the Wild Wild West again.

Do you know what the difference is between the NCAA Net and the Realtime Power Rankings?
I don't know that much about them, but looking around in that NCAA page they've got Home, Away, Neutral, Quad 1, Quad 2, etc records listed. South carolina, Texas, UCLA, and USC are way ahead of all others in Quad 1 records. No others are even close.

"The quadrant system is broken down into four sections, with the top two quadrants having the most importance.

Quadrant one wins are those home games vs. teams RPI ranked 1-30, neutral games vs. 1-50, and away games vs. 1–75. For example, a home win against a top 30 team would qualify as a

A Quadrant 2 win are those at Home against the RPI 31–75, neutral 51–100, and away victories over the RPI 76–135. victory."

I am glad we went down in the ranking. I think this bunch will play with more abandon and have more fun when expectations are a little lower. Maybe we will surprise some people. Looking at the last two games especially, we certainly weren't the best team in the nation. I think we are very good, but I've never thought of us at the best team in the country. That doesn't mean we couldn't win the championship if things go right.

It's tough to be realistic about a team sometimes, but I think all of Texas' February and March games proved that Texas (and Vic's offensive coaching approach) still have a long way to go to be like SC's ilk. Sure, folks fall off during tough conference schedules, but it looks like Texas fell the most among the top ranked teams. I love this team to death and wish the stars would line up for them, but those last two games changed my prospective for sure.

Thanks for posting. Michael Voepel said it well. We have a chance, but need to find a way to elevate our offense and do it quickly. He says maybe we can find a way to get our guards more shots.
