WVU is 7-2 with losses to Baylor (45-65) and OSU (73-78). They have had 1 cancellation (Coppin State) and two postponements (Kansas, K-State). According their web page, this game will be broadcast on ESPN+
Former Miss. State and Texas signee, Esmery Martinez has been doing a great job at WVU averaging like 13 points and 13 rebounds a game; was really disappointed when she didn't enroll at Texas. We've got to get her into foul trouble on Saturday. 2020-21 Women's Basketball Cumulative Statistics - West Virginia University Athletics
This will obviously be Texas' toughest test. I just hope they shoot the ball better away from home than they did against Kstate, even though West Virginia's defense is better. As Brnkj pointed out, the lack of depth in the post will be an issue. I see West Virginia winning at home.
I think Texas has this one. West Virginia has absolutely no big that sees playing time. Esmery is the player who will guard Collier tomorrow & the fact that they run strictly man defense puts us at an even bigger advantage. They rely on guard play & I am fully confident in our guards. WV won't be able to stop Collier or Gaston and if they double team Collier then they won't be able to stop our dribble drive offense. You can't have no height & double team in a man defense, it just doesn't work. Expect big games from Warren, Collier & Gaston in this matchup. Lambert will have a big game on the assist aspect & Allen-Taylor is going to get her buckets regardless.
I'm on the fence with this one. While I feel, player for player the matchups favor our first five or six (especially against a man-man defense), I'm really concerned about depth in the post and potential foul trouble. We're also going to need to shoot well. Bottom line either result, a win or a loss, won't really surprise me.
Horns will win comfortably due to their suffocating defense. After watching every team at least once, this conference is way down compared to years past. It’s a two team conference this year. Baylor, Texas and everybody else. No excuses for a loss today.
That one was on Vic. He should have taken Collier out after that 2nd foul. This changes everything now that Collier is out until the 2nd half. I also think Vic needs to get Warren in there. I understand he has his rules about no practice no play the day before but there needs to be an exception this game.
Wow, have we trailed anyone by 8 this year? I guess Vic is waiting for double digit lead before he makes adjustments. The starting lineup is definitely not getting things done.
UT has again been dismal at the free throw line. Really backing up on that stat in the last two games. I'd like to see us come back, but perhaps we were supposed to have this kind of game???
For one of the few times this season, our freshman looked like freshman. Gaston was awful in that first half, but that’s not typical of her so I look for some improvement in the second half. One of the scary things we’ll have to deal with all season is that Collier is clearly a security blanket did this team. When she’s not on the floor we’re pretty bad. Even when they’re swarming her, her merely being there forces good things to happen
Jacob, I respectfully disagree with you. This is on Charli. She continually makes herself ineffective by getting into foul trouble. Definitely needs to come back for another year to figure out how to play without doing so.
And I respectfully disagree. A part of coaching is knowing a players tendencies. If you know she’s prone to foul trouble (as we all do) that may have been the most predictable part of this game
Fundamental failures more than anything else... you won't be competitive in many games when you don't box out and miss free throws, especially on the road. We're basically being beaten at our own game.
Yep. I’m gonna turn this one off and get ready for dinner because it’s clear that we didn’t bring it tonight. Credit to Gondrezyk playing in honor of her father who passed yesterday. And credit to coach Carey and staff, they had it tonight and Vic and co didn’t. That will happen from time to time in a league with several HOF’ers. Look forward to some practice and much needed improvement
I’ll give Vic a pass for anything in his first season but he clearly did not have his team ready to play today.
Well, I guess this game will be a reality check for the team. Totally didn't see this coming. A failure in every aspect.
This Is absolutely embarrassing!! Looks like nobody wants to be out there. Absolutely no reason to look this bad.
Totally unprepared team today! Texas paying 2 million for that! At least when we lost by 30 in the KA era it was to Baylor.
I mean although we look horrible as a poster said above, a beating like this can be very beneficial and I think it will in this case. Luckily Vic will have the entire team for the first time this year at practice over the next week. I think with everyone available this is a good team. Much better than what they showed tonight.
KA's teams would take a quarter off in almost every top matchup. Even in the *** whooping's by Baylor they would play hard in the 4th quarter to make it look a little better. We didn't show up for the whole game. I thought they should just get on the plane at the half but hated to say that.....they should have.
The only thing... and I mean ONLY thing I can say good about this game is that a lot of people don’t have ESPN+. Brutal.
That was painful to watch. The only thing I could think at the end was that Mike Carey was being merciful at the end and obviously told his team to bleed the clock. And then, the next thought was that Mulkey would keep trying to score and get over a 100.
Yep. And as I've said before, I just didn't see the difference x's and o's wise offensively from this coaching staff.
