Wow. There is no way to put my gratitude (and sadness) in words, for all that you have done with this site. It IS the "internet" to me -- this is where I go. It will be a huge whole in so many good longhorn lives.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to a site that was truly a culture all its own.!!! (I had to go back and check -- I registered on this site almost 15 years ago to the day.)

This makes me sad. I gained so much entertainment and information here. Thanks for all the good times and all your hard work. I hope you will reconsider or find some like-minded someone to carry on.

As already has been said, I'm not completely surprised, yet saddened.

There's been a spirit of frustration that has dominated HornFans for the past couple of years--somehow the clever and comic camaraderie that marked the group came unraveled.

I do want to remember and give thanks for the years and years when this was the only forum of any kind that I came to, and which filled me with laughs and tears and intelligent conversations about all sorts of things. At its best, HornFans was not limited in any way to football, although it was a common ground to bring us on site. At its best, HornFans was a community of otherwise anonymous Longhorn fans who became a family--joking, arguing, praying, playing, buying, selling, making new memories while recalling the old ones. Like a big family Thanksgiving.

So, thanks to Robert and Katy, the moderators over the years, and the hundreds of thoughtful posters who have enriched our lives.

You can't do this! Now we'll never settle Simms vs Applewhite.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. From bad days in the Cotton Bowl to victories in the Rose Bowl and everything in between. Regardless of whether we were celebrating or commiserating, we did it here. Thanks for all your efforts over the years. Hook 'Em Horns!

Orangeblood, I wouldn't let some posters influence your decision. No matter what you or anyone does, you can't make everyone happy. We could win a national title every year and some would still find something to gripe about. This site is really good and for the most part civil. Look at texags, there are multitudes of crappy posters there which mirrors their crappy fan base.

Thanks for the memories. This is the only site of any kind that I belong to. I read it faithfully every morning while eating my cereal no matter were I am. My regret is that I never went to a tailgate and met some of you guys. That was for physical mobility reasons but I should have tried harder. I feel like they are sending me to the home with no internet. Thanks again for everything.

Good for you, Robert and Katy. I am blessed to have stumbled across this website a young, cocky adolescent always line stepping my posts but having a good heart. I've met a lot of wonderful people from the old tailgates that are still very much a part of my life today, including the two of you who came to my wedding. I think you were there. I was pretty hammered. We did go through three kegs before we got done with pictures.

Thank you for the support over the many years. I will see y'all around in the real world.

Thanks, Robert and Katy. I haven't posted much, but I have been here nearly every day for over 15 years. I lived in Florida for nearly 30 years and this is where I got my information about my beloved Horns.

As a 1958 grad from UT I have enjoyed the good, bad and the ecstatic. You and the posters on this board have been a life line for me to the Longhorns and I greatly appreciate you.

    Thanks!

Long time visitor, rarely posting, but have enjoyed this site for a long time. Thanks to you guys for all you've done to make this fun and informative for us outsiders.

If it's not a violation of some copyright or other rule can someone tell me how to save some of the stuff on here. There are things for me, and I'm sure for you, that I've read many, many times and I still crack up reading it again.

Although I do not post on this forum much, there are very few days that I do not come to HORNfans to find out what are
the intelligent opinions regarding the latest Longhorn sports news. To me the end of this website marks the end of an
era. I do not know those who have made this forum website so valuable to us fans, but I want to thank you from
the bottom of my heart for the valuable contribution that you have made in helping to bind together the Longhorn fan
community. I bid you adieu and congratulate you on a job well done.

I have a hunch that the size of this category of fans that I represent is not fully appreciated by those that have contributed
to keeping the HORNfans website up. We are the ones who, for some reason, do not have a lot to say but monitor its
success and the expressed opinions on a daily basis. I have been a longtime UT fan for almost fifty years since being
a freshman on the campus in Austin. I have monitored this forum for almost the entire time that I have had an internet.
With your ending of this forum, there will be a huge hole to fill. I, like others who have indicated herein, have monitored
shaggybevo at some point and consider it a waste of my time to read most of those threads. It takes too much effort
to ferret out the intelligent viewpoints.

To any group that wants to continue some equivalent substitute for HORNfans, please PM me. I am not sure what
to do, but I do have some technical savvy that might help in some way.

Damn. Really sorry to hear this. Despite the criticism (often unfair) that HF received over the years, the quality of posts here has always been one of the best among the many online communities I've been a part of, and obviously Katy and Robert had a huge part in that.

Anyway, I suppose this is a good time to share some of the greatest posts in Hornfans history that I compiled over the years:

    Re: Absolute Truth
Statalyzer: If nothing can be 100% proven... then how do we really know for a fact that o u sucks?

    BrickHorn:
There's always an exception to the rule. OU's suckage is clearly transcendent of individual logical systems - it applies equally to all conceivable realities. There is no feasible universe in which OU would not suck (assuming it existed). Every philosopher since the golden age of ancient Greece has agreed that, if ever a university of Oklahoma were founded, it would suck. Since the founding of Trailer Park U., it has been evident that the early hypothetical theories of Plato, Socrates and Thomas Aquinas were indeed correct. OU was founded, it sucked, it currently sucks and it will always suck. Modern theorists have noted the amazing accuracy of the early theories, and have seen no need for further revision. Rather, luminaries such as Ayn Rand, Nietzsche and Descartes have been satisfied to merely comment on OU's suckage in complete agreement with the ancient wisdom, and give reassurance that there is no feasibility of OU making a state change from suckage to non-suckage. It is a superuniversal truth. OU sucks. OU has sucked, OU still sucks and OU will continue to suck ad infinitum.

Doperbo: It is telling that only through the emotional journey of art and poetry can we experience or categorize the omnisuckeficense that is Oklahoma.

Tank: Aaron Harris is nicknamed The Human Talking Machine. He is an absolute monster on the field.

Aaron Harris is nicknamed The Human Talking Machine.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BrickHorn: You're confusing Aaron Harris with my wife.

    Re: Limas Sweed
002Longhorn: I was looking at the UT roster, and I didnt see his name on it. Do they not list redshirt players? He is redshirting right? Someone help me please!!!!

Dances With Possums: Limas simply doesn't exist anymore. Due to the convergence of forces beyond our control, he was suddenly spit from the universe, like a sunflower seed. That's why he's not on the roster. We don't like to talk about it much, understandably.

Re: Walmart banning Maxim, Stuff, etc.
HornHawk: Now where will the Okies go to buy their jerk-off mags?
SizzleChest: the living room. that's where the family photo album is kept.

    Re: Mock & Simms
suttree: With the ball rotating clockwise, our offensive will be unstoppable under Mock.

    Re: '03 Class
Dances With Possums: Isn't Aaron Ross going to be part of this class in actuality, too?

The Peoples Elbow: aaron ross is part of every class

Re: Vincent Young - how is he developing?
TheSniper: I didn't see (Vincent Young) in the Spring Game and I haven't heard how he played. Does anyone have an opinion on how he is developing as a quarterback? Did he have a good Spring?
Puddle/Cruiser: I don't like it when a guy named "The Sniper" is asking about our QB of the future.

Re: Darn Florida fans get mad when they lose...
AUinAustin: OK what was the worst you did/saw after a loss.

CaptainAmerica: scally was there for mine... The best probably happened after that Stanford game we lost out there. I let loose a profanity laced tirade in the lobby of the Alamo Draftouse that had to go for 20 seconds. At the conclusion, I tore my shirt off, Hulk Hogan style, and looked over my shoulder to see Quentin Tarrantino standing at the bar in tht lobby, staring at me, aghast. Jaw fully touching the floor.

scally: harry knowles was there too

    Re: Snake in my backyard
mihm_rules: BTW, one of my worst fears is having a snake attack/jump on me from above, via tree, house, fence, whatever.

macho grande: cuz snakes are known for attacking from above, especially from fences and houses. crafty devils

Gale_Snopes: A&M has had 5 major football infractions with Recruiting incentive violations including the often sought repeat offender and lack of institutional control. I think what this tells us is the Sooners cheated alot and got alot out of it, We cheated a bit and got something out of it, and the aggies cheated a whole bunch and got nothing out of it. Once again the aggies do less with more!

Re: Vincent Young Has "Matrix-like" Speed
Dionysus: VY looked more like a superhero with an invisible nuclear-powered jet pack playing against 82 year-old retired casino workers and if you look at the video closely there is a third leg that extends from his left haunches, then disappears before you can focus on it and reappears briefly to stabilize his gazelle-like frame during these periods of inhuman acceleration and redirection. In high school at Madison Houston he once overthrew the flanker on a deep post route and beaned a grocery clerk in Galveston right in the eye. The doctor said she needed stitches but the wound miraculously healed itself due to the mega-nano-velocity on the spiral coming off VY's hand. He's a special player all right.

Maybe (hopefully) the open container was just a beer can from the night before or something like that.

Macanudo: Nice. Maybe he was drinking and driving during a different time.

    RE: OU LB Mitchell--torn ACL
MuggyMug: that sucks, I wanted to lose to them while they were at full strength.

    Re: Whole Salmon
BrickHorn: I've never eaten a salmon whole.
You can easily turn that statement into a baldfaced lie of epic proportions by simply removing the "w."

Re: best apple 2 series game?
111: There was this game where you were a trucker and you had to get your loads around America...it was awesome, but I forgot the name of it.
The Peoples Elbow: shawn kemp basketball?

    Re: ABC's offensive against Christianity
BrickHorn: Jesus was close to his mother, his best friend was a woman, he traveled around the country with a group of a dozen sailors, he kissed people on the cheek, he was a natural at public performance, he drank wine and he wore sandals. Now, ask yourself why a story that involved this guy getting married might be a tad bit unbelievable.

    Re: Mike Lupica
RansomStoddard: Actually, he knows that pissing off Sooners will have absolutely no effect on sales of his book.

Re: Video Highlights of OU Game on Coach Fran Show
Blade Runner: Kind of reminds me of the old Soviet Union days. When someone fell out of favor within the ruling class his face would disappear from all official pictures. You know they also used to bury their dead in the walls of the Kremlin. Doesn't that remind you of the dead dogs and the score board? Scary!

    Re: KSU now owns OU
OrangeWarrior: I've been to Dallas. I've seen the disgusting animal that is sooner. I'd much rather spend 10 days with aggy than 1 with sooner. Aggy is still Texan, sooner something far less.

    Re: Todd Walker
texaus: he's similar to Colby Freeman coming out of HS except he's faster, runs better, has a more accurate and stronger arm, and he's better.

Evil Beaver: The closest things to it were: A.) A supermarket. B.) A cajun restaurant. C.) An Exxon.
HouTexHorn: I am positive I have ****** up the same shitter! You are speaking of the Hooters in Westchase correct?
Evil Beaver: Yes. I am amazed at your ability to triangulate the position of a random Hooters - based only ona description of surrounding businesses.

Re: No Way In Hell We Beat Arkansas
X-Ray_Horn: I fear Nutt will once again shove his boot up Mack's ***, his toes neatly posed in a "horns down" formation as they go in.

Re: Pretend you are Mack. 4th Q against A&M
jkhombre: you continue to score at will until the members of their fake military retarded band attempt to kill themselves one by one with their he-man plastic sabres while simultaneously squeezing their nuts at the command of 6 gay milkmen running up and down the field giving hand signals that look like air masturbation.

RE: Katrina to maintain New Orleans status quo

"As Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on Monday, experts said it could turn [New Orleans] into a vast cesspool tainted with toxic chemicals, human waste and even coffins released by floodwaters from the city's legendary cemeteries."

BrickHorn: It sounds like Katrina will leave New Orleans largely unchanged.
DizzG: the storm turned a bit so NO got damn lucky
    yorktownhorn: 3 pumps have failed.
    bevorachel: Two levees were breached.
Excitable Boy: And the Superdome has sprung a few leaks. (Last three posts should be sung to the tune of "12 Days of Christmas")

    Re: wow part 2
    The Peoples Elbow:
in the ohio state game, cedric griffin covered santonio holmes. in high school, cedric griffin attended san antonio holmes. thats ****** up.
X-Ray_Horn: I have it on good authority his adopted family bought their house from San Antonio Homes.

Re: Vince in the locker room
BDog: The feeling of coming through that tunnel must be unreal.
The Peoples Elbow: when you find the right girl, it will happen for you too. just be patient

    Re: Rachel Nichols doesn't blink
MaximumBarnes: Noticed this? Check her out the next time she does a report on SC. See if you can keep your eyes open as long as she does. She's like a snake. Does not blink. It's very disconcerting.
miguelito: She only blinks when you do. It's impossible to see, since your eyes are also closed at that moment.

    Re: Hodge on ESPN news
Trips Left: Hoge is just old school. Of course that school is pre-Brown vs. Board of Education, but old school nonetheless.

Re: Wow ... Texags actually "broke" the Bomar scandal
MP5: The aggy thread is so typical, out of the muck and confusion one of them gets a clue and gets something right, but like the first monkey that picked up a bone to use as a tool and gets killed for being different therefore staving off any meaningful evolution.

Re: Anybody record the Rose Bowl in HD?
SynTex: I have it on my HD Tivo. I've already burned a copy onto DVD (downconverted to SD, of course) in case my Tivo crashes. But I'm going to keep it there until there's some kind of technology that's not too cumbersome for me to archive it in HD. Probably means it'll be on my Tivo for years until HD-DVD burning technology comes out. It's kind of like keeping an old guy frozen for a 100yrs until the cure for his disease is discovered.

Thanks for providing a place I liked to visit just to find out stuff and vent some frustrations.

I have made myself a human pinata around here several times, especially when I was itching about the Alamo bowl "championship" rings that Mack gave out.

I was only banned once when I supported the OP in a fire Greg Davis thread by saying Just It Do.

Oh well, thanks for the hard work and putting up with us for this long.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Hornfans. I started my message board days off on here and attended my first tailgate as a Hornfans member.
