Part of anything doesn't constitute the whole. Lower population is good in the long term, as long as it doesn't decline any further. Once it becomes a survival issue, I think society will find ways to create kids, probably was wards of the society itself. The problem is the next 50 years, when we will have a huge elderly population that would need to be supported by fewer working population.
