We need a play where Heard is in but doesn’t run it every time. It’s become as predictable as watching Brett Robin line up in the backfield.
^^^ This. When Heard is taking the direct snap, a long time ago it became predictable to our foes that 95% of the time it's a run. Need to mix it up more - a short pass here and there to keep em off balance.
Also have to name Warren's package. The difference between the two seems to be the potential of a pass by Heard.
If he continues to avg at least 4 yards per carry, I'm good holding my cards tightly on passing, etc.
He did but it has been a long time since he threatened or completed a pass.... IMO he needs to attempt pass a little more often to keep the D from stacking the line / keying on the run.
My guess is the coaches probably did not want to show our real plays to USC while playing San Jose State. For the most part we were scrimmaging/practicing and not calling our best plays. My other guess is Heard throws a lot more Saturday.
I loved the 18 Wheeler formation 2 years ago vs. ou, when Swoopes faked the run and completed a pass in the end zone to a wide open Caleb Bluiett for a stand up TD. Would love to see Heard do that same thing by hitting whomever the TE is vs. USC (it won't be Garret Gray).
This^^^. "The 'Warren Peace' package is coming into the game. And Warren takes it over left tackle into the end zone!!! Well, Warren is giving 'em hell and there's no peace for USC when he's out there Joel."
Chrispy Cream? The 3rd Wheeler? (Chris Warren III... Get it?... I'm crackin' up here!) Warrant? "It looks like Texas is going to issue a Warrant for the opponent's arrest!" Stop it, I'm killing myself!
I keep telling this to myself and I really hope it's true I'm expecting the best out of Herman on Saturday I want the guy who beat OU Florida State and Louisville to show up if so we will win this game
It would be nice if he could show up with Ed Oliver Jr. From what I recall, in the OU and Louisville games he was virtually unstoppable and lived in the backfield. Pressure up the middle makes coaches look very good.
If you compare our offense from the Maryland game to San Jose State, we were not running our real offense or were at least running a very basic version against San Jose State State. That said, I am not sure whatever we run will be enough against USC.
