It isn't a paradise, and it isn't socialist. I'm surprised that people on the Right allow democratic socialists to hold out countries like Norway and Denmark as socialist, when they clearly are not. They follow the Nordic Model. They are social democracies, not democratic socialist states. There's a big difference.

The double standards the media deploys in framing stories is really astounding. If a story favors a Left wing narrative, it is almost always framed as true to a strong degree of certainty. If it cuts against a Left wing narrative, it is framed with verbiage that suggests doubt about its accuracy.
What I find really remarkable is commentators like this - people who wish the story was true. Think about this. This guy is wishing that a gay black dude actually was beaten up and are sad that he wasn't. Shouldn't the normal human response to this story be one of relief? Scandinavian countries all became wealthy as a result of laissez faire economics in the late 19th century to mid 20th century. They had some of the free-est economies for decades. Then they decided to add large social welfare programs on top of that. I don't think the economies themselves were ever made less free other than the taxed to pay for the welfare services. In the last 20 years, their economies have suffered greatly from the huge financial burden of the welfare services. In the last decade they have started the process of reducing that financial burden. Overall, their economies are roughly as free as the US with social program spending on the process of decrease. Leftist US politicians like to use the example of 1990 style Scandinavia while ignoring that they are drastically different today.
