President Trump’s varied responses to national tragedies are nothing new, of course — in fact, emphasizing nationality and religion when the attacker is Muslim and highlighting mental health when the attacker is a white male U.S. citizen is a recurring theme for Trump.

“Another attack in London by a loser terrorist,” Trump tweeted in the aftermath of an attack in London two months ago. “These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!”

“The travel ban into the United States should be far larger, tougher and more specific-but stupidly, that would not be politically correct!” he added.

At the time, authorities had stated that their investigation was ongoing and had not released details on the suspected attacker.

By contrast, the president offered a far more muted reaction after the Las Vegas shooting.

“My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting,” Trump tweeted. “God bless you!”

 

You talk about only nationality and religion. The focus on terrorism is "intent". There's a big difference.

The intent of terrorism is what separates it, not the color or nationality of the perpetrators. I still haven't heard any reasons given for the Vegas guy but the Texas guy seemed to be about retaliating and making one family hurt.

That's very different than other events where their stated goal is religious war, or retaliation for America's presence, or America's belief system.

In this situation, you are the one that is blinded by race/nationality. You can't contemplate the intent without seeing their skin color first.

You pointed out contrasts in his responses to national tragedies, yet use an international example where he has no connection to law enforcement to gather accurate evidence before making a claim. The guy hears their news reports and makes a statement like every other Twitter hound.

Who cares what he says about foreign attacks? I don't expect him to have any real knowledge of the event. But only a naive fool wouldn't assume the vast majority of multi-victim attacks by a Muslim overseas is not terrorist linked. The recent track record is overwhelming in that favor.

As for American events, against common sense, I'll bite. As far as the released evidence shows neither the LV or TX shooter meet the definition of a terrorist.

How can he kneejerk and label either of those two white guys as terrorists unless they were screaming Christians or Republicans must die? If it was a black guy or a Latino guy he'd be just as wrong for doing that without evidence.

Labeling Muslims prematurely? Idk, when was the last multi-victim attack by a Muslim in the U.S. that wasn't terrorist related? Foot Hood, Orlando, San Bernadino, Ohio State, New York....

In LV and TX he rightfully didn't as the claim would've proven inaccurate by definition. Days later when he attributed it to mental health, both cases had evidence the perpetrator had mental health issues in their past and no evidence linked political or religious motivations fueling the attack. The FBI said as much.

So either it's a deep state racist coup involving law enforcement, intel and DT, or it was the right call according to the evidence relayed to him.

As for the Muslim truck plower in NY a few weeks back...terrorist right off the bat as the evidence clearly suggested.

Screaming the infamous line and pledges to ISIS on handwritten notes on location. DT had that info right away before he rightly labeled him a terrorist.
