That coach that worked miracles with the various quarter backs at tOSU is the new head coach of the Houston Cougars.
Viper don't forget that Major recruited Swopes and he did not do more with less he is the reason we have less.
Case, from a talent perspective, was worse than Swoopes. It's not even close. Major probably would have switched to Heard. Major recrited Swoopes when he was one of the top QBs in the country his junior year like a lot of other schools. I am not going to throw him under the bus for recruiting highly regarded 6'5" 220lbs QBs with cannon arms. They don't all work out, but that's not a bad strategy. When they don't work out, you have backup plans. Ash got injured and Swoopes was forced to play before he was ready. What was the backup plan? Heard, who other schools would have loved to have. Buy Watson and Strong kept him on the bench.
To put things in perspective, Swoopes was offered by: Texas Alabama Auburn Baylor LSU Notre Dame Ohio St. Stanford TCU Texas A&M Texas Tech
Lets get down to the brass tacks, Texas lacks competition at the quarterback position and this is a carry over from Coach Mack Brown, here is a snap shot of some teams that are currently doing much better than Texas. Since 2008 Texas has only recruited 7 QBs and only two are still on the roster. Compare that to these other schools. Texas 2 of 7 Alabama 5 of 10 Ohio St. 6 of 6 Baylor 4 of 4 TCU 6 of 11 The QB issue is not Watson's fault so get off his back.
I still see people get mad at Mack Brown for the whole Garrett Gilbert thing and say things like we should have recruited this guy or that guy instead. That's easy to say after the fact just like watching a play on tv and wondering why the QB did not throw the TD pass to the guy on the other side of the field. Pretty much every big school, if not all, went after GG in H.S. and wanted him to go there. We were lucky enough, at the time, to get him. It could have just as easily worked out gangbusters.
