With the season coming to a close for many teams let the transfers begin. Lauren Aldridge is transferring from Kansas...Huge loss for KU. She was their leading scorer this year.
You have to feel for the Jayhawks; they were so young this year, with 10 underclassmen on the squad. After going winless in conference play, they were in that rare position of having no seniors on their roster; everyone was due back. Losing Aldridge is definitely going to hurt their chances of turning things around next season.
wow, that is a huge surprise. Usually, you expect bench players to transfer for more playing time. KU won't be as good as if she had stayed but they do have Southern Cal transfer McKenzie Calvert eligible to play next season so that will help to offset Lauren's loss. I am sure they were looking forward to a backcourt that included both Lauren and McKenzie, though. I liked Lauren's competitiveness and the way she played. Best wishes to her wherever she goes.
Lauren being their leading scorer will obviously effect the team. But I think Kansas will still be a better team even without her. Mckenzie Calvert will be eligible to play and Jessica Washington will also be eligible to play. They're really good players and probably would've started over Lauren anyway.
Don't forget Taya Reimer is transferring from Notre Dame. Look for her to end up at Kansas to Oklahoma State. Since she is graduating she can play next season.
Any rumblings about possible Longhorn transfers? The only one that comes to mind is Diani - having redshirted this season. I know she was injured but she's going to have a hard time getting minutes at PF, assuming Joyner grabs most of the PT at the position and Hosey (if she adds a bit of muscle), the twins and Aborowa could all battle for floor time at the 4. I'm not hoping she moves on, just speculating.
This is Diani's second year redshirting. You are right in that there will a lot of competition for that 4 spot.
Did she get a redshirt last year? She got minutes last year - 10 games, 35 minutes total, but I don't know the Ins and Outs of the redshirt rules. I just remembered her getting the type of minutes Mide got this season - blowout mop up duty.
yeah, you are right. She played so little her first season, I keep forgetting she did play at all. From her roster bio:
Stasha Carey (6-2 Soph. Forward) is transferring from Pitt. I've been waiting for this announcement...Texas and Maryland have interest. http://triblive.com/sports/college/pitt/10309828-74/pitt-transfer-carey
Per the Pitt WBB website, she has great skills on defense. Pretty impressive as she just finished her Sophomore season. AS A SOPHOMORE (2015-16): Started all 31 games ... Finished the season as the only player in the ACC to rank top-15 in rebounds, blocks and steals per game … Averaged 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game … Ranked fourth in the ACC in blocks per game (1.5) … Her 54 blocks and 48 steals both rank fourth in the Pitt record book by a player in her sophomore season … Had six double-doubles, which was the sixth most by an ACC player this season … Scored a career-high 26 points, along with 13 rebounds, five steals and three blocks at Boston College … Tallied 21 points vs. No. 12 Louisville … Scored the game-winning basket with 15 seconds remaining at Clemson … Led Pitt in scoring five times, rebounding 13 times, steals 16 times and blocks 14 times … Had 17 double-figure scoring games on the season.
Makes sense now - the other night I noticed she recently started following Coach A on Twitter when I was looking at coaches/assistant coaches who have done the same.
Is there a connection to Texas or the coaching staff for Carey? Being that she's from Ohio, I'm wondering how any interest originated. I don't recall us recruiting her out of high school.
Sheryl Swoopes is losing 10 out of 13 of her players. Allegations that she tries to control the players personal lives outside of basketball. Have to wonder if she will keep her job. With the investigations going on at Duke with Coach P and Connie Yori resigning at Nebraska this seems to be the year of being mistreated.
University of Illinois' leading scorer, 6'3 Chatrice White of Nebraska, is transferring. Wants to play for a team who has made the Sweet 16 or better the last two season. Considering some ACC schools, and one Big 12 school; could that be us? http://www.omaha.com/sports/nebrask...cle_4d0e2954-031e-11e6-96a1-93adb6f26278.html
pretty sure that thing about reaching at least the sweet 16 or better the last two year only applies to us and BU. With all the young posts, BU has, kinda doubt she would go there. But for a true post, especially an experienced one, we sure have an opening after next season.
She knows, at least somewhat, a couple of Longhorns - on the same McDAAG West squad as Ariel and Brooke.
This could be the beginning of the end - internal investigation of Swoopes: http://espn.go.com/womens-college-b...igation-women-basketball-coach-sheryl-swoopes
Small irony: Swoopes was on UT campus for a short while as a freshman before personal issues had her transferring to Tech.
Some confirmation that Chatrice White did visit Notre Dame this past weekend, and appears to be visiting Louisville sometime this week. You'd have to assume they are the frontrunners. No indication anywhere as of yet that Texas is under consideration; but, if she is interested in visiting a Big 12 school (as has had been indicated last week), I hope it's us. http://cardinalcouple.blogspot.com/2016/04/chatrice-white-to-visit-louisville.html
This week in program meltdowns: Kentucky. Losing players and highly ranked recruits. http://espn.go.com/womens-college-b...4/lindsey-corsaro-decommits-kentucky-wildcats
And the avalanche continues...6' 2" sophomore Alexis Jennings is the 7th player to leave UK since the fall. Started 18 games, averaged 10 points, 7 rebounds.
