I am going to these countries next summer and am about to start planning my trip. I am flying by myself, but have friends to stay with in England. I plan on going to France as well, and staying on my own there. And I may meet up with a friend who is travelling in France next summer.

Anyways, to those that have travelled there alone, what are some good places to visit in England and France? Any less touristy ones? How long would you think would be ideal for the trip? Are hostels a fairly safe place to stay so long as you use common sense? Thanks

How long will you be there?

If you have time(and enough resources), I would definitely travel up to Scotland.

I second going to Scotland. When I backpacked after college graduation, my group did the macbbackers tour. It was one of the highlights of our 3 month long trip. The guides are hilarious and you stay in nice hostels at night. Would be great for someone traveling alone. The Link
