Horns need a strong finish to end up in the top 16 in the second reveal. NCAA to reveal women's basketball top 16 twice ahead of 2019 tournament | NCAA.com
Not sure it's in the cards this year as our non-conference has turned out to be very weak (which most of us figured was the case when the schedule was released). Granted, if we had scheduled too tough (like in years past), we'd most likely have more losses, as well; and, still not a Top 16 seed. Iowa State seemed to have scheduled very well this non-conference season; and, that's not the norm for them. They are in much better to be a Top 16 seed than us.
The only good thing would be our head to head win against ISU. Still, maybe the fact that we are ranked higher in both the polls will work in our favor. Ideally, all three Big 12: BU, Texas and ISU, will be in the top 16. Doubtfully that WVU gets into that top group. A strong finish, including a win over BU, either in the second game or in the Big 12 tournament, would make a strong case for the Horns to be among the top 16 teams. Horns are 32 in the latest NCAA RPI ratings. They are 21st in the Massey Rating with an SOS of 32. Gonna be hard to reach that top 16. Tennessee really let us down.
Polls mean nothing to the committee. Never have. Crème has us a #7 seed the last time I checked; he had some not-so flattering things to say about our non-conference wins, but it's the truth.
It's been happening for women's volleyball (Top 10) for a couple of years. And, the men's reveal of Top 16 was done today. Even happens in women's softball.
huh, felt asleep during the UConn-S. Carolina game before halftime. Missed the reveal but Texas was not among the top 16 teams listed so missed nothing. Horns have some work to do to get into the top 16 to host. Lady Bears are No. 1 in committee's top 16
Lots can change over the next month, especially with the upcoming games in the ACC and SEC. All we can do is continue to play and hopefully keep up the improvement. The chips will fall where they fall. Let this be a lesson about pitiful non-conference scheduling. It doesn't help put people in the stands either.
Crème has us up to a #6 seed. Obviously, we need to keep winning. Bracketology with Charlie Creme Beating ISU at home is probably our biggest chance to creep up (and knock them down a seed); and, chances are high we could meet them again in the conference tourney semi-finals.
