It's a bounce back Saturday for the Horns after a bad loss in the season opener last night.

Augie said he will go with basically the same line-up today, to if see the the team responds.

Somehow, some way, this teams has to produce some offense, on a fairly consistent basis to take a litte pressure off a young, but talented pitching staff. Texas also lost a lot of good defensive players from last season. There will be time needed to adjust to new players, but some offense would do wonders in helping this team.

    Going to get the line-ups.

    The UNLV line-up:

    The Texas line-up:

The game will again be broadcast on LHN, at 2pm.

The veteran lefty Ty Culbreth, will get the start today for Texas. He usually has good control and mixes his pitches well. It's early so his innings will be limited today to probably no more than five innings.

Second baseman Justin Jones, batting left handed, will again lead off for UNLV.
Culbreth does mix his pitches and after thrown good breakers, he puts a fast ball over and it's K looking to start the game.

Cooper Esmay plays third and bats righty, with one down.
A two hopper to Boswell goes 6-3 for the second out.

Payton Squier bats lefty and plays left today, with two gone.
His hard grounder up the middle is knocked down by Culbreth and he recovers to make the 1-3 putout, to retire the side in order.

Good start for Ty, Texas comes to bat.

Right hander Kenny Oakley is on the hill for UNLV today, a senior.

Zane Gurwitz batting righty, and agas1-in in centerfield will once more be the Horn leadoff man.
An inside out swing on a high fast ball is lined to right center for lead single.

Bret Boswell plays short and bats left, with one on.
He squares, but three wide ones, may take it off.
The count runs full and this may get the running game going.
Another high fast ball is lined to left, for another single.

Two on for Patrick Mathis, playing right again.
He squares and the bunt is down, the 1-3 works and the Horns have a chance for another early lead.

Infield back for Tres Barerra, with one out and two in scoring position.
A ground ball deep in the hole on the left side, the shortstop flags it, but the throw is in the dirt and by the first baseman.
A run scores on the hit and an error, runners on second and third.

    Texas leads 1-0.

Michael Cantu bats right and catches today, with two aboard.
A hard liner to left and the left fielder gets a glove on it, but then drops it.
It goes as a two base error, two more runs score.

    Texas leads 3-0.

Kacy Clemens at first again, bats lefty, with one on and one down.
He looks to get untracked and play add on.
A comebacker and Cantu is caught off second, he runs down Cantu, the 1U is two away. The first real base running mistake of the year. Have to make the ball get through with less than two outs.

Kody Clemens bats lefty and plays third, with one on and two down.
A ground ball to on the right side and the first baseman lays out and has it, the pitcher covers and the 3-1 ends the inning.

Texas off to a good start, with a little help and leads 3-0, after one.

  4. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Culbreth staked to a 3-0 lead, takes the hill again in the second.

Leading off the inning is first baseman Cory Pool , batting righty.
A fly ball, just short of the track in right is hauled in, for out one.

Andrew Yazdanbaksh, the hero of last night with the game winning homer, steps in right handed, as the DH.
He lines one to center for the first UNLV hit of the game.

Austin Anderson plays short and bats righty, he bloops a single to right and that's two aboard.

Bryan Menendez bats righty and is the catcher today, with one down and two on.
He swings through a high fast ball, for the K and second out.

The right fielder Cory Howard, bats righty, two gone and two on at first and second.
He also K's swinging on the big roundhouse curve, to retire the side.

Bottom of two and Texas leads 3-0.

Oakley back out for his second inning of work.

Leading off for Texas is the second baseman Jake McKenzie, subbing for the injured Joe Baker. He bats right handed.
He goes for a fast ball a foot outside, the K is one away.

Ty Rand is in left and bats righty, with one down.
He walks and with his speed and a lead, he may very well be heading for second, if he gets a good read of the pitcher.

Gurwitz back up, at the top of the order, batting righty, one on and one down.
Rand goes and a liner to right center and Rand has to hustle to get back to first, but does.

Two down for the lefty Boswell, with one on.
He grounds one through the box and into center, Rand holds at second.

Mathis bats lefty, two away and two aboard.
Trying also to get untracked and play some add on.
A ground ball to first is booted to load the bases.
That's three errors today for UNLV.

Barrera, your big hitter, batting righty, with the bases loaded and two down.
He could really break this game open early with a big knock.
He walks and it's another run.

    Texas leads 4-0.

The catcher Cantu now has the opportunity to open things up for Texas, batting righty, the same situation that Barrera had.

Coach out for a conference, but leaves Oakley in the game.
Cantu back in and he K's swinging on high heat, to end the rally.

Texas gets another unearned run, their third of the game. The lead 4-0, now after two played.

  8. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Culbreth comes back for the UNLV third with now a 4-0 advantage.

The centerfielder for the Rebels leads off, that being Keyon Allen, batting lefty.
A ground on the left side is cut off by Kody Clemens and the 5-3 out is recorded.

Justin Jones the leadoff hitter, bats lefty with one gone.
A full count and a high delivery puts him on with the free pass.

Esmay is up once more from the right side, with one on and one away.
A one hopper to third and around the horn it goes 5-4-3, the double play is an inning killer.

Three played so far and Texas ahead 4-0.

  9. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Oakley sticks around for the Texas third.

Kacy Clemens bats left and looks for his first hit of the young season, leading off.
He blasts a fast ball to right center in the gap, it just gets over his outstretched glove, for a stand up double.
    He really needed that.

Brother Kody bats lefty, with one on.
He skies a ball to center and that won't advance his older brother.
One down on the nonproductive out.

McKenzie bats righty, with a man on second, one out.
Would like to see Texas keep the hammer down and extend the lead, after a lead double.
He K's swinging on a curve ball up in the zone.
    Two down.

The nine hole hitter Rand, bats righty, with still a chance to plate another run.
He pops up, as a fast ball ate him up on the hands, to retire the side.

Kacy Clemens finally gets a hit and he never moves from second.
So Texas leads 4-0, after three innings.

Culbreth, having a nice first outing so far, comes back for the fourth for UNLV.

Squier leads off, batting from the left side.
He slaps one to the right of Boswell and he makes the backhand stab, set and a strong throw nips him at first. The 6-3 is one down.

Pool bats righty with one away.
A chopper goes to Boswell and another 6-3 play gets the second man.

The DH Yazdanbaksh bats as the DH, from the right side with two down.
He sends a long drive to left center, it just clears the fence, for his second round tripper of the series.

    Texas leads 4-1.

Anderson will bat righty, with two away and one in.
He lines a single to right and Culbreth may be starting to tire.

The catcher Menendez bats righty, with one on and two away.
He still enough to blow a fast ball by him, to retire the side.

UNLV gets one back, so to the bottom of four, Texas leads 4-1.

  12. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Oakley will try to go one more, as the Texas fourth commences.

The top of the order in righty hitter Gurwitz, will lead off
He blasts a drive to deep left center in the gap, he heads to third and a high throw goes into the UNLV dugout, another errror and and another Texas run.

    Texas leads 5-1.

Boswell bats lefty, with a run in.
He golfs a low change down the line in right, to the fence.
    It's a double.

Coach out and that is all for Oakley.

    Pitching change.

The new chunker for the Rebels is a big right hander named Cody Roper, not a good name for a pitcher.

The first hitter he faces is lefty Mathis, still looking to get going.
Boswell on second and no outs.
Texas could play add on and put this game out of reach and give the young arms a look.
He walks and that puts two on.

Barrera, the right handed Texas DH, is up to maybe bunt.
He does and the play goes 2-3 on the sac.

Cantu up again righty, with two in scoring position and one down.
A pitch goes to the backstop, but Boswell does take the chance, as it rebound right back to the UNLV catcher.
A ground ball goes to third, the run scores and Mathis is hung up, he stays in the rundown long enough for Barerra to get to second.

    Texas leads 6-1.

Kacy Clemens back up lefty with a chance to add some more.
He bats with two down and a man at second.
He pop out foul, as the shortstop, stumbles, but makes the play to retire the side.

Texas adds one more and leads now 6-1, after four.

Culbreth tries to go one more and qualify for the win.

Howard leads off for the Rebels, from the right side.
The count goes full and a foul pop on the right side and McKenzie comes over and makes a good catch in the wind.

Allen bats righty in the nine hole, with one down.
A pop on the right side is squeezed by McKenzie again, two away.

The UNLV lead off man Jones, up lefty with two away.
He pops up also and behind the bag it's McKenzie again and that retires the side in order.

A very good debut for Ty Culbreth and I believe he will exit the game now.

Texas leads 6-1, halfway through the second game.

  16. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Roper will return for the Texas fifth.

Kody Clemens leads off hitting lefty.
A full count and a high fly ball to left is the lead out.

McKenzie bats righty, with one down.
A shot to third on a hop and on his knees the third baseman flags it and throws high, but brought in by the first baseman, the 5-3 means two gone.

Rand bats righty in the nine hole and a ground ball to short goes 6-3 and the side is down in order.

Five played now and Texas with the advantage 6-1.

As projected Culbreth is done and the new hurler for the Horns is right hander Beau Ridgeway, one of the talented freshman arms.

He will face Esmay batting righty, leading off for the Rebels.
Ridgeway has kind of slinging motion, with a lot of wrist action.
A full count and a liner goes down the line in left for a lead double.
    Grooved a fast ball there.

Squier will bat lefty with one on.
A ground ball to first goes 3U, as the runner goes to third.

One down and a man at third for Pool, batting right handed.
A ground ball goes deep in the hole on the left side and Boswell's throw is late, an infield single scores the run.

    Texas leads 6-2.

Yazdanbaksh, the hitting star for UNLV bats righty as the DH.
A wild pitch goes to the backstop and the runner moves up to second.
A back door fast ball nips the outside corner and it's a K looking, for two gone.

Anderson bats righty, with one on and two away.
A ground ball to third and the 5-3 will end the inning.

UNLV gets a run, but the freshman buckes down for the last two outs.

Texas leads 6-2, bottom of the sixth on the way.

  18. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Roper stays out there, trying to burn innings like Kremer did for UNLV last night.

Gurwitz, at the top of the order, leads off for the Longhorns.
A one hopper to third and the 5-3 is the first out of the frame.

Boswell back up hitting lefty, he has two knocks today.
A fly ball to pretty deep center dies and it's the second man retired.

Mathis bats lefty, with two gone.
He's really off balance at the plate now, has that lost look.
But four balls out of the zone will put him on.

Barrera bats with one on and two down, from the right side.
Mathis goes and he is gunned down to retire the side.

Six played and Texas up 6-2.

  19. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Lefty Jon Malmin, comes back after pitching last night. The parade of pitchers may be starting now.

A pinch hitter will lead off and he is righty hitter, Vince Toarmina.
He grounds a single up the middle into center.

Howard bats righty, with one on.
A big overhand slider gets him swinging, for one down.

Allen in the nine hole bats righty with one on and one out.
A slow hopper to third and the only play is to first, the Clemens to Clemens 5-3 is two gone, runner moves to second.

Top of the UNLV order is up in Jones batting lefty, with one on and two away.
A fisted grounder to second and Jones reamains hitless on the 4-3, the side goes down.

Stretch time in Austin and Texas ahead 6-2.

  20. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

Roper back out as arms are being saved for tomorrow, in the Texas seventh.

Barrera leads off batting righty, leading off for Texas. He could really use a hit, to get on track.
Toarmina stays in the game to catch for UNLV.
Barrera K's looking on a fast ball on the outside corner, one down.

Cantu bats righty, with an out recorded.
He walks to put a man on.

Kacy Clemens up lefty with one on and oned down.

The coach is out and he wants a lefty to face Clemens.

    Pitching change.

  21. NBHorn7

    NBHorn7 Pimp Daddy

The new Rebel on the hill is lefty Tervita Gerber, who's delivery is straight overhand.

    Clemens steps in against him.
A hard grounder ball to first, the firstbaseman goes down to a knee to get it, the force is made at second, but the relay is late.
So the 3-6 force makes it two away.

Kody Clemens bats lefty with his brother on first and two gone.
A ground ball up the middle is off the glove of the backhand attempt by the second baseman, he throws to second, but Kacy is back safely.
It's the first hit off the UNLV relievers.

Two on and two down for righty hitter McKenzie.
He takes a four pitch walk to load the bases.

Rand in the nine hole hits righty, the bases loaded and two down.
Another chance to break the game open.
A hump back liner to left center falls and two runs score, it wasn't well hit, but it did the job.

    Texas leads now 8-2.

A ground ball by Gurwitz to third is flagged by the third baseman, his throw to second is high and into left field.
Another runs scores on the fifth UNLV error of the game.

Texas leads 9-2 as the wheels have come off for the Rebels.

Boswell bats lefty with two outs and two on, he has three hits on the day.
This time he K's swinging to end the Horn rally.

Texas adds three more and leads 9-2 after seven.

Another talented freshman will take the mound for Texas in right hander Nolan Kingham, like UNLV, from Vegas. The tall hard throwing Horn could be another considered for the closer role or a set up man.

Esmay leads off for the Rebels, batting right handed.
A chopper to third and Kody Clemens can't handle it and it's the first error of the day on Texas, E-5 in your scorebook.

Squier bats righty, with one on.
He cues a ground ball to second and McKenzie charges and gets the out at first 4-3, runner to second.

Ames bats righty with one on and one down.
He lines a drive to right and Rand comes on the run and dives full out and makes the catch about a foot off the ground. Nice play for the second out.

The power hitting DH, in righty Yazdanbaksh is up with a man on and two down.
He K's swinging on a heater, to end the inning.

A lead error, but the freshman Kingham battles throught it and has a nice beginning to his career at Texas.

Bottom of the eighth and Texas in command 9-2.

Gerber stays in the game for UNLV, to pitch the eighth.

Mathis leads off, from the left side.
He still looks to find his swing and get going.
He does it here and he drives one deep to right center and it cuts through the wind and clears the fence, for the first Texas homer of the year.
That is what Mathis capable of.

    Texas leads 10-2.

Barerra bats righty, with a run in.
He skies a pop to right and it's the first out.

Cantu bats righty with one away.
He lines a screamer to right center over the right fielder and it one hops the fence, for a double.

Kacy Clemens bats lefty with an out and Cantu at second.
He grounds to second and the 4-3 is two down.

Kody Clemens bats with two outs and a man at third.
He lines a single to left for another run.

    Texas leads 11-2.

Coach to the mound and a pitching change.

The next pitcher is a very large right handed freshman Ryan Hare.

McKenzie will face him batting right handed, with a man on and two away.
The count goes full and Clemens will be off and a K swinging his third of the day, end the frame.

Two more come in for Texas and they are total controll 11-2 to the bottom of the ninth.

Kingham will try to close the game out in the ninth.

Lefty hitting Isbel will pinch hit for UNLV.
He hard ground ball goes right to McKenzie, the 4-3 is one down.

Toarmina bats righty with one away.
A grounder to short and the 6-3 is two quick outs.

Pinch hitter Max Smith is the last hope for UNLV.
He hits from the left side.
The count runs full and a grooved fast ball is lined to right for a single.

Allen bats lefty, as a switch hitter against Kingham, with one on and two down.

Skip comes out as Kingham is overthrowing trying to end the game.

Allen back in and a liner goes to center and Gurwitz comes in and dives to make the catch and end the game, on a nice play.

    Texas wins 11-2.

Much better effort today, let's listen to the post game and come bak and sum things up.

Texas breaks out with some hitting today and UNLV implodes with five key errors, to give Texas an early lead.

Ty Culbreth has a very good outing with 5 quality innings and the pen including some freshman getting their feet wet looked impressive.

Put it all together and you get the first win of the season, the 800th win for Augie at Texas, in 20 seasons as head coach.

You hope the hitting will go on and become consistent, some guys like Mathis and Kacy Clemens get extra base hits today, maybe that gets them going.

Boswell with three hits and you expect that he should hit well, everybody has expected him too.

The pitching is going to be good, as always, these freshmen should really contribute, as time goes by.

So the series is tied at 1-1 and the rubber game is tomorrow at 1 pm. This is the kind of game you expected against UNLV and hopefully it continues and the Horns take the series. :hookem2::bevo:
