Tourney schedule: [pre] 09/12/13 Arizona State vs. Youngstown State 6:00 p.m. CT 09/13/13 Illinois vs. Arizona State 10:00 a.m. CT Texas vs. Arizona State 5:00 p.m. CT Illinois vs. Washington 7:30 p.m. CT 09/14/13 Illinois vs. Texas 7:00 p.m. CT[/pre] Streaming is available if you have a CBS Sports (or Big Ten online) subscription. ASU looks tough; their win over Youngstown State last night was their seventh consecutive 3-0 sweep to start the season, though only Wichita State stands out on a quick look at who they had played. Then this morning they reportedly had clearly won match point at 14-13 in the fifth, but the line judge made an incorrect call. Illinois then went on to win the match. Link for the video: The Link
Nothing coming through on the stream for me yet. ASU leads 16-10 per GameTracker. One recent play was a service ace attributed to Nicole Dalton.
GameTracker's play by play no longer lists an ace by Nicole in Game #1, although the stats still credit her with the ace. Probably a mistake. ASU leads 10-8 in Game #2.
After ties at 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 1nd 16, ASU pulled away to a 19-16 lead. ...and on to a 22-18 lead before the 'Horns close to 22-21. ASU timeout.
ASU must have made it a priority to shut down Bailey Webster, and been willing to take their chances with everybody else. Bailey ended up 7/5/26 for .077, while H.Eck had a huge match, 21/4/35/.486. IIRC, Bailey had more swings than did Haley early on, 16 versus (??), so eventually we yielded to ASU's "shut down Bailey" strategy. Numbers per GameTracker, not official. Stream never did work for me.
Nice win for the gazzelles. This tough early season schedule should pay big dividends later this fall.
Not that it matters much this time of year, but Texas falls to 6th in the latest poll: Link. Tough schedule early on will pay dividends down the road.
When you have the toughest schedule in the USA. You are going to lose games early, but the benefit at the end of the season will payoff. Hookem'
