Since we are literally the 2nd to last game to get started in the entire NCAA tournament, we've got quite a wait ahead of us. So lets start looking at these matchups. First, some interesting interviews:
First Round Opponent - E. Carolina Pirates
Some nuggets from ECU interviews so far. ECU maybe sounding a bit confident already?
First, ECU Guard Synia Johnson (MVP of their conf. tournament) when asked about the matchup with Texas says:
“I think we have a real good chance”:
After the selection show, ECU Head Coach Kim McNeill says playing Texas is “Just like playing Houston” and “we just came from playing Houston, so the kids will be familiar with that type of defense.” [Uh coach, I would respectfully disagree. This ain’t gonna be like playing Houston]
A few days later after watching film, Coach McNeill was a little more guarded: “They’re big, they’re really really big, they have an unbelievable rotation of post players that are 6’ 3” and above, they are physical, they’re athletic, they really get after it on the offensive boards.” “They have more post-players than they do guards” [yeah, tell us about it Coach. And by the way, that wasn’t exactly by design]
Lastly, she invokes the name of Charlie Crème as alleged motivation because one of her players allegedly found an article where Creme-boy said “Texas was gonna beat us”:
Second Round:
If we play better than Houston and somehow beat the pirates, then its either Louisville or Drake. Yes, Drake can beat Louisville. But everyone wants to talk about that possible rematch. Some really interesting interviews here.
First, man is Hailey Van Lith a seriously intense, Type A personality. She would have eaten the two snowflakes that left our program in the last 2 years for lunch. She says you are “Either born with competitiveness or not”. That’s the kind of player we need to continue to bring into the program year after year. Check out when she finds out from the press that she was literally just named honorable mention AA and was basically totally pissed off about – saying, “yeah, whatever”. Louisville players also have a chip on their shoulder for the lower seed they received and for not getting to host. One of them says at the end that they are going to be a "bracket-buster":
Jeff Walz - this one was really interesting. Jeff has apparently really been working on the Portal at night lately. Has some really interesting quotes here on roster management. Says Texas and Louisville are totally different ballclubs then when we last played. Also brags that at their arena they averaged 8500 fans per game which was more than most ACC men's teams. We really need to turnout for these games folks.
