What are you listening to?

Ok, let's start some introspection on what we like or consider great stuff we listen to. I will admit to being old school. So, I dont expect anyone to necessarily like or agree with my taste or picks.

I range from liking 60's - 70's stuff like The Beatles, Herb Albert, Brazil 66, Doors, Byrds, Stones, Moody Blues and Hendrix, Motown, Doobie Bros., ZZ Top, Tower of Power, and on to Tom Petty, Pat Metheny, Patrick O'Hearn, Enya and other new age stuff.

So, for fun, what are your 10 favorite albums?

Me, and I am leaving a few off that deserve to be on my list:

1. Meet the Beatles
2. Deja Vu - Crosby Stills Nash & Young
3. Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
5. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
6. The Doors - first album
7. Led Zeppelin - I & II
8. Abby Road - The Beatles
9. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
10. The Who - Who's Next

So: Summer of Love 1967...beginning of Flower Power.

What did you like?

I remember liking TWIGGY, a hot but skinny British model along with any Shelby Mustangs, The Byrds, and UT football.

Remember '67 Year of the Horns? BILL BRADLEY, CHRIS GILBERT & CORBY ROBERTSON were going to make things right after 6-4 in '65 and '66.

I did not like the Monkees.

I will throw out a few from the top of my head:

Light My Fire - Doors
Wendy - The Association
Better Find Somebody to Love- Jefferson
SGT. PEPPERS released in June 1967*

*Changed music along with Beach Boys Pet Sounds summer 1966. Several Beatles admitted they were greatly influenced by Brian Wilson / Pet Sounds and focused on a cutting edge sound / album that produced Sgt. Peppers.

I like the list from WorsterMan but would like to add a few.

Bob Seger - Night Moves - Night Moves, Fire Down Below, Come to Poppa, Mainstreet and Mary Lou among others.
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill - Do it Again, Dirty Work, Midnight Cruiser, etc.
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - 1950's Jazz well worth a listen.

Two Beatles albums but no Revolver?
 
I remember some music critics at the time said music genius Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra was or could become the next Beatles.



Me and wifey listen to the 2017 concert at Wembley Stadium about X 1 per month.... on big screen with sound board on high! I think we recorded it off the live TV broadcast so the sound video and audio are better than this You Tube link.

There are You Tube versions that are shorter and don't include interviews and build ups.

Thanks, and I will check it out. I love the Beatles and know every song they ever did, but my knowledge of ELO is basically limited to Mr. Blue Sky and Don't Bring Me Down, which were great songs, but I'd love to learn more of their stuff. I know John Lennon and George Harrison both greatly respected Jeff Lynne and ELO.
 
Jeff Lynne went on to perform as one of the Traveling Wilbury's and you can hear his influence on much of their music. Others in that group were George Harrison (the leader), Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Oberson, and someone else I am embarrassingly leaving out.

Frankly I discovered the TW's kind of late but really enjoyed what they did. Check them out.

Hey, Revolver was a GREAT work and I love it but I was trying to not totally taint my list with fav Beatle stuff.... for example some think The White Album was better or they like it better than Abby Road. Some would say the White Album should be on my list and not Abby Road....

Maybe I / we should start a list for best Beatle albums?
