Karaoke ... if you live in Asia you do it. If you're a qhite guy over here you have to be ready to go when called. It's fun to get loaded with your friends and go so it's not completely mandatory you have a go to song but for business - Japanese/Chinese?koreans you have to have some go to songs. Now the English songs overe here are limited sometimes but they always seem to have some that are ready to rock. Painful experience has taught me - don't try anything where the singer was like legendarily good even if you love the song and the band. I.e. no Freddy Mercury - you can't do it. No, you cannot do it. Mine are "Creep" and "1979". If I want to impress the hostesses I go with "True" Oh and do know the words, if you don't, pick something very very slow..
B-52s - Rock Lobster Bryan Ferry - Slave to Love Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun I know, I know, a chick sings that song. But it's fun and easy to sing to since very few people can sing like a Porpoise.
I always go for songs that people can sing/scream/moan along to: Family Tradition You Never Even Call Me By My Name Sweet Caroline You Shook Me All Night Long Livin' on a Prayer Sweet Home Alabama (a slightly different version of the chorus is sung in Knoxville)
wait, are you talking singular performance at a hostess club where they are going to applaud you no matter what, but you better pick a song you can preform to save face, or a drunken night out with friends where everyone inevitably joins in the song? for the former - my way by frank sinatra for the latter - wonder wall - oasis
Who doesn't love to sing Mack the Knife? I also like to sing Let It Snow, even in the summer. Stoney End is another of my favorites to sing, and I don't even try to sound like Barbra. I haven't sung karaoke in a long time, though. I have no friends to go out with here.
I am sure that people love to sing Sinatra but it takes guts to have that as a fall back. Impressive, actually if you are trying to impress people and not goof around.
I would be unable to impress anybody at karaoke even if I tried. Oh to be able to sing Roxy Music's, "More Than This" like Bob Harris.
last time i was in hk, a friend (local) took me to a karaoke bar. singing was not the main attraction there...
1. Man of Constant Sorrow--The Soggy Bottom Boys and 2. Penny Lane--The Beatles (I'm spot-on with these) 3. Wanted Dead or Alive--Bon Jovi 4. Everybody Wants to Rule The World--Tears for Fears 5. Dani California--the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Eyes Without a Face- Billy Idol You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'- Righteous Brothers And if you've got a solid foursome, the Highwayman, by the Highwaymen.
"Love Shack"... with a guy who can sing it with me "These Boots are made for Walking"- Nancy Sinatra "Sweet Dreams"- Eurythmics "I Will Survive" "Friends in Low Places"
journey - don't stop believing. i can hit the notes and i ******* rock this song.... by the end though i have problem singing. my voice is gone. i give it my all.
OK I went out to dinner and karoke with my new japanese overlords last night - I have a romanian french girl who works for me sing the 'fat kid singing' numa numa song perfectly (while i did backup dancing), the japanese dudes sang 'stand by me' and did a duet with a chinese girl who works for me to 'endless love' My waspy jersey vp sang bon jovi and I rocked my go to song "Creep" among man others. The evening ended with us all in line singing 'we are the world'. I **** you not. I am still wondering how this **** happens. Really if you had been there your mouth would still be on the floor. Asians love karaoke.
