Nice find. What a great read and amazing story, and well written.

Seems obvious losing McNair caused tremendous, tragic amounts of pain. I would love to see him keep writing, adding more details to the day-to-day grind from college through the NFL. VY, if you’re reading this keep writing bruh!

I have always wondered how things would have gone if VY had McNair there when the **** hit the fan.

Always wonder what would have happened if he'd not had Fischer. Take the offense Harbaugh has run for Lamar Jackson and Vince has a totally different career.

What I took the most from the article, which is what I think happens to several high caliber NFL draftees, is it was no longer fun once he climbed into the NFL.

That's a big reason I don't really cheer for the pros. The game is a business at that point and no longer a game to have fun playing.

Never will be able to completely feel what it’s like to grow up in those circumstances. VY will always be a hero to me and I will always take the side of had circumstances been different he would have been a hero in the NFL as well as at UT.

Of course I love VY as our Horn. An exceptional athlete who allowed us fans the joy of the NC. But soon I saw a side of Vince that revealed what a remarkable man he was becoming.
In spring 05 after the Rose Bowl win He spoke at a school in Round Rock. Urged the kids to study hard and if they did he would come back and visit again.
So in 06 when most in the draft were probably training Vince went back to that school , told them he was proud of them for studying and urged them to keep studying and always keep learning.
I saw that vid clip and knew Vince was an exceptional human being who did not want to disappoint the kids so he kept his promise.

I wish for him that it would have been different in the NFL but that does not change the great admirable person he is.
    This article reinforces that.

Hope I run into VY someday around Houston. Hope he’s happy and doing well. I bet that he is. Most days. He seems laid back and down to earth!

Agree. Didn't Kubiaggy say that they didn't need Vince because they had David Carr? What a maroon!

David Carr career passer rating: 74.9
Vince Young career passer rating: 74.4

Sounds like it didn't work out for anyone.

Houston may be suffering — and may continue to suffer, the curse of VY for a while. I pretty much dispise the franchise and was happy to see them collapse in the playoffs.

Their misread of VY was epic. Pass on a hometown hero who desperately wanted to be there? You’ve got to be nuts. Hindsight is 20-20 but there is no doubt that had he been chosen, the city would have embraced VY and rallied around the Texans.

I was there that day. The only Texan game I ever attended. Half the stadium was rooting for Vince.
